I've been pretty heads down over the last few months leading up to Lotusphere IBM Connect 2013. Nothing to apologize for, I've just been focused on other things. I will leave it to others to provide detailed post-conference analysis. Let me just say that it was, through no fault of IBM, one of the worst weeks of my life. It was also one of the better weeks of my life. We lost a friend, but also made some new ones. I drew much closer to many existing friends as well. Brewer's Breakfast
Tue, Nov 6th 2012 11:00a   Devin Olson
Many home-brewers, believing that spent grains are worthless, will throw them out when finished brewing. This belief is far from the truth. Image Credit: Tyler Howarth 2009 Spent grain is an excellent source of nutrition. They are packed with proteins, vitamins, fiber, and flavor. When mashing and lautering, the grains are steeped in water heated to somewhere between 150 and 170 degrees. I have just been totally schooled in priorities, and how mine were completely out of whack for the last 4 years. During that time I took less than 18 days of vacation time off work. A while back I bitched about how Using Nested Subforms can Crash Designer and my frustrations about IBM not bothering to do anything about it. I'm happy to announce that this is no longer the case. What to do when you're screwed
Thu, Oct 21st 2010 5:00p   Devin Olson
So I was working on a project (can't give the details) today, and ran into a weird problem with NotesDatabase.UnprocessedDocuments. Specifically with regard to processing the selected documents in a view, when said view is embedded in a page. After figuratively banging my head against the wall trying to noggin up a solution, I remembered we recently hired some dude who supposedly knows a few things about Lotus Notes and Domino. So I gave him a ping, to see if he really did in fact have any c [read] Keywords: domino lotus notes

Happy 25th Birthday!
Fri, Sep 10th 2010 7:40a   Devin Olson
Bell's Brewery here in Michigan, is celebrating their 25th birthday today. Twenty five years is a lot of great beer. Some of you might recall how excited I was last January at Lotusphere when I discovered four things: Shula's Bar stocked Bell's Christmas Ale The Dolphin Lobby Bar stocked Bell's Oberon Ale Giving away GOOD AMERICAN BEER while walking around the Dolphin is tiring (those cases were heavy). "Free as in Beer" isn't cheap. But sometimes it is worth it. Spanky: "I [read] Keywords: lotusphere

New for 8.5.2: Lotus Notes Preloader
Thu, Aug 26th 2010 10:50a   Devin Olson
Ok I admit it, I'm a bit behind the 8.5.2 Gold Release Bandwagon. I've played about a bit with the DP releases (and kept my mouth shut like I'm supposed to); but I haven't actually had the chance to install / play with the Gold release until this morning. Something really cool about this release is the Lotus Notes Preloader, and the fact that during install you are asked whether or not you want to Launch parts of Notes when the operating system starts to enable faster Notes star [read] Keywords: ibm lotus notes applications

Fat Man Running
Tue, Aug 24th 2010 8:50a   Devin Olson
Last night we had a parent / coach meeting at my daughter's school, followed by a trip to Gazelle Sports to purchase her new shoes. She is on the Cross Country team, training officially begins the first day of school. Gazelle sports was having an unadvertised 20% off sale for all Cross Country team members (the Cross Country / Track coach for one of the High Schools works there during the summer), so the place was crazy busy. There were runners from all over the area, from grades 7 - 12; along [read] Keywords: google

Simple fix for Slow running M6400 Precision Workstation
Wed, Aug 18th 2010 11:40p   Devin Olson
My primary machine I use for development is a Dell Precision M6400 Workstation, with a QX9300 Quad Core processor, 8Gig of RAM, dual 7200 RPM HDDs, and a 1920 x 1200 RGB LED display. This setup allows me to run multiple VMs within which I have setup various Domino Server and Notes Designer client environments. Doing things this way allows me to have "clean" setups for different projects -I can change from Notes Client 7 LotusScript development to banging out some Java in the latest Eclipse Des [read] Keywords: domino lotusscript notes notes client R5 development eclipse java laptop mobile network office server wireless
