One step closer. Digital torture. Take II
Sat, Mar 17th 2012 12:24a   Eric Mack
FedEx delivered the new iPad today; however, it's still in the shrink wrap. I've promised myself that I would get my eProductivity inboxes processed before I played with the new tablet. (Which is why I'm blogging, right?) The last time I was in this situation was almost 7 years ago when I was getting ready to unbox my first tablet pc. I eventually did the unboxing the next day and recorded a podcast. We had a lot of fun with that, back when Tablet PCs were 7 pounds and would run for 3 hour [read] Keywords: lotus notes apple blogging integration podcast

GTD Meetup at The Master’s College
Tue, Mar 6th 2012 3:03p   Eric Mack
This morning I was invited to be a guest speaker at a GTD meetup at The Master's College in Santa Clarita. A group of professionals have been studying David Allen's book, Getting Things Done - The Art of Stress Free Productivity, for the past year and asked if I would be willing to host a GTD Q&A session. I shared a 5-minute overview of the GTD methodology then took questions. There were a lot of excellent questionsabout managing lists, what tools to use, and how to work across dispa [read] Keywords:

How to build a KM strategy, in less than 50 words
Sun, Jan 22nd 2012 9:22p   Eric Mack
Nick Milton does a great job answering this question: How to build a KM strategy, in less than 50 words Decide what knowledge is vital for the organization (A) Find out who needs that knowledge (B) Find out where that knowledge is now (and if it doesn’t exist, where it will come from) (C) Work out how to get A to B from C · Routinely · Systematically · Effectively · Efficiently As one commenter mentioned, it's important, when determining the knowledge vital to the [read] Keywords:

What can we learn from the ’Open Letter’ to RIM?
Fri, Jul 1st 2011 4:06a   Eric Mack
According to Engadget, RIM received an 'open letter' from an disgruntled employee. I won't speculate on whether the letter really was from a disgruntled employee or whether it was appropriate to post if it was - there's plenty of speculation in the comments. What interests me are the talking points from the letter and what takeaways might be applied to any company, mine or yours, large or small. Let's take a look: Focus on the End User experience Apple raised the bar here and the [read] Keywords: lotus apple community rim

Salespeople at cemeteries are the new low of low Emotional Attachment to things can make you do silly things Documents, Lists, and Storage Remember that even with death, your life must go on To John's point #2, I am reminded of the time my brother an law and I accompanied my wife and her mother to help them select a cas [read] Keywords:

A lot on on my plate lately; less time to be social
Fri, May 20th 2011 12:22p   Eric Mack
I've been socially disconnected since returning from Lotusphere. This is mostly due to big changes on the business and personal fronts. For starters, on the business side, we launched a new product, a new business model, and a new web site to tie it all together. If you have ever done anything like this you know how time consuming any of these can be, not to mention all three concurrently. I'm fortunate to work with an awesome team and Ryan Heathers, my director of consumer sales and marketing [read] Keywords: lotus lotusphere notes symphony

Phantom of the Floppera
Thu, Feb 10th 2011 11:23a   Eric Mack
It's been a long time since I have used my soldering iron to build circuits but I found this inspiring, technically and musically. This guy built a MIDI controller that drives teh stepper motors in 4 flopy disc drives to make music. Be sure to watch to the 2:30 mark for a special surprise. Ethics are the foundation of effective Knowledge Management
Wed, Feb 9th 2011 4:03p   Eric Mack
I recently had an interesting discussion on the topic of ethics in business and how they apply to Knowledge Management. My view is that ethics are the foundation of effective knowledge management. Here's how I currently define the argument for Ethics in KM Knowledge Management is about sharing of knowledge, information, and experiences - an exchange of information and ideas . (We often call this learning.) This exchange cannot occur without effective communication. For communication to be t [read] Keywords: exchange exchange

Due to the stage lighting, I was unable to see much of the audience from the main stage where I was presenting, but I know that many people were taking photos during the presentation. I'm hoping that some of you who took photos of my presentation would be willing to share these with me. Did you attend Lotusphere 2011 in Orlando last week? An open letter to the Muslim community of Santa Clarita
Mon, Sep 13th 2010 3:14p   Eric Mack
This week, pastors from our church and several others in the Santa Clarita Valley took a stand on the planned burning of the Quran by Pastor Terry Jones. I am pleased to be represented in this as I do not support actions of this man who would seek to do harm in the name of our Lord. I understand that the actions of one individual claiming to be a Christian do not represent all of Christianity any more than the cowardly acts of a group of terrorists should be not be assigned to an entire religion [read] Keywords: community
