There’s a new Chrome extension for Gmail which greatly improves the functionality of the popular email platform. According to Mixmax, it will give your Gmail superpowers. No, it won’t make your Gmail fly or give it X-ray vision. But it will improve the tools available to you for sending email and organizing meetings. The Mixmax extension gives you a fresh email compose window that allows you to easily add things like polls, meeting availability, slideshows and Q&A’s. Having th

UK MP Introduces Bill to Ban Email Disclaimers
Fri, Jan 9th 2015 10:00a   Henry
An MP in the United Kingdom introduced a bill this week to ban email disclaimers. More specifically, the often lengthy legal disclaimer at the bottom of your email. Sir Alan Duncan described email disclaimers as “meaningless missives” involving “forests’ value of paper” when emails are printed out. Sir Alan told MPs that email disclaimers were a result of the early days of the internet and should be modernised with a simple link to a web page. Automatically include a disclaimer link o

Take The Pain Out of Outlook Search With Lookeen
Thu, Dec 18th 2014 2:11p   Henry
Despite the multitude of communication channels available to us these days, in the business world at least, email remains king. Outlook in particular is used by millions of professionals around the world for day to day communications, and is one of the most comprehensive email services available. Searching for information, however, is where one of Outlook’s biggest downsides comes to the fore – Outlook search is not always the most intuitive nor speedy tool. The native Outlook search bar is

Wed, Dec 10th 2014 9:11p   Henry
It’s that time of year already! Time to bring out your design skills and create a creative Christmas email signature. Whether it’s for your business or just your personal email, everyone appreciates a Christmas email signature. I’ve pulled together some examples that I’ve seen from previous years, as well as our own. The first example is from our friends ID Technology from the UK. Each year during December they add a Christmas message and a santa hat to their usual logo.

This year we brought Office to the iPad and the iPhone, and we recently announced that we’re bringing

Wed, Nov 19th 2014 3:12p   Henry
It’s no secret that they way people communicate has changed over the last few years. The constant rise of social media has challenged the way that businesses work both internally and externally. Last month we saw Google launch it’s new feature-rich email platform, Google Inbox. IBM is attempting to create a similar movement with their new product, IBM Verse (don’t get me started on the name). IBM Verse stems from the company’s $100 million investment in design innovation and

When you’re choosing which email marketing program to use for your business, there is a very important factor that you need to consider. Each email marketing program has a very different success rate for reaching your customers’ inbox. Mail Channels recently analyzed millions of email delivery attempts by looking up the abuse contact information for each connecting IP address in the Abusix abuse contact database. The following table shows you what percentage of emails sent from each

Further Improvements to Apple Mail Brings iOS 8 Email Notifications
Tue, Oct 21st 2014 2:15p   Henry
Another minor improvement has been made to the Apple Mail App with the ios8 email changes. When you’re typing in the subject line, a bell appears. Allowing you to turn on email thread notifications, further improving the functionality of the Mail app. iOS 8 email notifications means that you can turn on and off email alerts for each email that you send. The flag allows you to set a notification on a particular email thread. It’s pretty common to turn off notifications for every si

The poll collected responses from September 16, 2014 through October 3rd, 2014, and the results can be found below. This links well with an IBM Notes infographic that we created last year on the same subject. View our infographic.

My Notes App – A Better Lotus Notes Mobile Experience
Wed, Oct 15th 2014 8:12a   Guest
Today it is very common to be out of the office, with only your phone. But it’s difficult to check and reply to your emails if you’re using Lotus Notes mail. The My Notes App from Inexika can make this situation a lot easier! There is actually already a great application for this, IBM Notes Traveler, which provides instant access to Notes mail and other Notes applications. But not all users of Notes can enjoy this solution. First, it requires IBM Domino server of version 8 or higher

Animated GIFs, a follow up.
Sun, Oct 12th 2014 6:11p   Henry
Last year I wrote an article that highlighted the use of animated GIFs in email marketing and how they may have started making a comeback. Up until now I have been seeing basic examples of this, mainly from retailers, to give the reader a glimpse of clothing colour options. Here is a good example from Savile Row Company: So what’s new? Recently I received an email from Airbnb that completely blew everything else out of the water. This animated GIF has 147 frames and is of extremely good quali

How to create the perfect email signature
Thu, Sep 25th 2014 9:13p   Henry
Whether you’re a business or an individual, the benefits of a great email signature should not be ignored. A well designed email signature has the ability to drive huge traffic to your website but also increase your personal or company brand awareness. I like to look at the email signature as similar to a business card. A lot of time goes into the design of a business card, to ensure it stands out but remains professional. The same process should be used when creating an email signature. There

Plausible deniability? No longer an option with email.
Mon, Sep 22nd 2014 4:12p   Henry
Banks, debt collection companies, and law firms take note; plausible deniability is no longer a valid argument with the latest generation of email services. Nowadays email can and does come with guarantees. Whilst you can’t guarantee that an email will be opened, you can most certainly detect whether or not it has been, without the need for the often fallible ‘read receipts’. The ‘honest guv, I never saw it’ argument simply no longer holds water. So how might the ab

Mon, May 12th 2014 7:11p   Henry
From July 1, Canada will begin enforcing one of the most strict and in-depth email laws in the world – the Canada Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Among other things, CASL requires all commercial electronic messages to include an unsubscribe mechanism, this applies to individuals and organizations sending emails into and out of Canada. Email Design – Stand out in the Inbox
Wed, Apr 23rd 2014 10:10p   Henry
Email marketing is one of the most powerful forms of promotion. There are 3 times as many email accounts as Facebook and Twitter combined! (Kiss metrics). Social media is a medium where a lot of content is ‘consumed’ but in terms of communication, email is on top. Because email is a trusted communication path it can be a very effective marketing avenue. Another interesting email fact is that 94% of internet users send or receive email, but just 61% use social media (HostPapa). This reinforce

IBM Connect 2014 Review
Mon, Feb 17th 2014 4:10p   Rob
Another year, another IBM Connect. Or indeed, another Lotusphere, as the majority of the Notes/Domino contingent still prefer to name it. The year 2014 will go down as a success in my books. I must admit that, as exhibitors, we did have our concerns leading up to this conference. We have heard so much talk of migration away from Lotus/IBM Notes over the past couple of years and of course we have seen the 10,000 strong IT crowd of Lotusphere reduce to a mixed crowd of a few thousand for IBM Conne

iNotes on Your Smartphone Made Easy
Thu, Jan 30th 2014 9:11p   Henry
In a native iNotes environment, Smartphone Clients (using Mobile or Ultralite mode) have no search functionality at all. Therefore to find an email you sent or received at some time in the past (to read it, reply, forward, whatever), you can only scroll backwards through your email until you get to it. That’s not practical in a normal environment, and means your historical mail data is largely out of reach. Now though, the FT Search Manager allows you to search your active Mail, AND all se
