Session as delivered by Sasja Beerendonk & me at ICONUK in London on September 12th 2014 Beyond theory: Trials & tribulations in becoming a successful social business Abstract: There is lots of theory about how to become a social business but what really does or doesn’t work? Speaking at ICONUK 2014
Sun, Sep 7th 2014 3:16p   Femke Goedhart
Next week I will be flying out to London to join my coworker Sasja Beerendonk to deliver a session at ICONUK 2014 on the trials & tribulations of becoming a successful social business. I’m really looking forward to this session in more then one way: First of all because it will be my first time presenting together with Sasja whom I’ve know for years as a specialist of social business adoption and who, I’m lucky to say,  decided to join the great team we have at Silverside [read] Keywords: linkedin profile

Why? – Why not
Mon, Aug 18th 2014 10:10a   Femke Goedhart
Sometimes something inspires you, hits you or just speaks to you. Today I saw this fragment on a Dutch tv show and it hit a nerve. I’m not in science but I am in IT and I still get asked sometimes “why?”. I’ve never really paused at that question, I knew when I started I was an exception in a sea of men (my then company employed 160 male and only 4 female IT consultants) but I never felt inhibited or held back in any way to become or do what I wanted. The ‘why?R [read] Keywords:

Dander4Dosh – Break(ing) in the foot
Sun, May 25th 2014 4:11p   Femke Goedhart
Ok, so people who know me might know that I broke my foot last November. I was training for a 15k race (running) and missed a curb…. Stupid, stupid, stupid…. Seven weeks of a cast, a wheelchair and crutches on I was more then ready to restart my live and decided that I had to get back in the swing of exercising. As running still felt a bit daunting so soon after the break and as I had already kind of committed myself to walk the Dander4Dosh I figured it would be the perfect way to fo [read] Keywords: facebook twitter

This blog is follow up in a series of blogs on Folders in IBM Connections. For full understanding I would recommend reviewing the previous blogs: #1: Community Folders, #2: Ownership of files and folders and #3 working with folders first.   So in the previous three post I explained a bit about the ins and outs of IBM Connections folders, the different flavours you have and how they work and differ from each other. IBM Connections Folders #2: Ownership of files and folders
Tue, Apr 15th 2014 1:14p   Femke Goedhart
This blog is follow up in a series of blogs on Folders in IBM Connections. For full understanding I would recommend reviewing #1: Community Folders first Ownership is quite important in IBM Connection when it comes to data. Why? Well because ownership isn’t always straight forward and sometimes data shouldn’t be public. Obvious! Why would you even need to say that? Well… The premises of any social platform like IBM Connections is to share. That means that in theory the thinking [read] Keywords: connections ibm community security

IBM Connections Folders #1: Community Folders
Mon, Apr 14th 2014 9:12a   Femke Goedhart
Last week CR4 for IBM Connections 4.5 came out. An intermediate update that had a few new options for file management in IBM Connections. One of which was the ability to add Communities folders. Until now the standard option to get a folder in a community Files section was to create one in your personal files and share that with the community. Control and ownership would however remain with the user, not the community. This has now been extended with the option to create a folder specifically [read] Keywords: connections ibm community

Shared folders – potential security issue
Sun, Apr 13th 2014 4:49p   Femke Goedhart
IBM Connections allows users to share personal folders with groups, communities and users. An ideal option to share sets of documents/files with multiple target audiences at the same time. There are however some caveats. Especially in situations where Shared Folders are used to share potentially sensitive information with Restricted (secured) communities. If your organization uses Shared Folders I would strongly advise looking at the below example to get an idea of the potential risks so you can [read] Keywords: admin connections ibm community security

Podcasting… an impulse, a plunge and a lot of sleepless nights!
Fri, Jan 31st 2014 3:48p   Femke Goedhart
So those that weren’t all caught up in IBM Connect last week (yes I know, not many of you) might have noticed I did something new. Well not new in itself, but new for me. I decided to try and see if I could do a podcast. Usually I don’t really buy into these as it is of course a clever way of advertising a beer brand, but… I do love the premises of taking a process like the hiring process that is so standard, mandated and rigid that it has taken out any chance of really showing your true personality as a candidate and twisting it around completely to become something in which you can’t help but show something of yourself. It has been a weird couple of months. As some of you might have noticed I haven’t been as ‘social’ as I used to be. Not that I didn’t want to, but simply because I was too busy. Busy with work and busy with organizing Social Connections IV, the IBM Connections user group event that is going to hit Amsterdam in 2,5 weeks time. Lotus Notes Gems: Set the default font for mail
Tue, Oct 30th 2012 3:13p   Femke Goedhart
Every now and again you learn about a new functionality or option in your favorite software that has been there for a while and you really should have know about but simply didn’t… And although you love it as soon as you learn about it, it also bugs the hell out of you that you didn’t learn it before! Well here it is, my gem of the week: In Lotus Notes mail if you want to set the default font for new messages simply create a new mail, create some text according to the font, co [read] Keywords: ibm lotus notes

Docova 3.5 – no more IE lock-in!
Wed, Oct 17th 2012 12:17p   Femke Goedhart
Docova is a web based Document Management system that caters for both basic and complex Document Management from department to enterprise level. It supports customizations and is compliant with most international record management standards. We’ve been working with it for several years now and I love it although it does have, like all software, its little nuisances. The recently released Docova 3.5 has some great new features (check their blog) that will solve a lot of those. In particular [read] Keywords: enterprise firefox

Ok, I’ll admit it, this has got me stumped for a while now but “WHAT’S UP WITH ALL THE BACON?!?” there isn’t a day without someone in my social networks mentioning or referring to ‘bacon’ in some way, there even is a bacon day, a bacon society and a bacon ipsum generator. IBM Connections 4 gold nugget: Drag and drop file management

Like everyone else I’ve been excited to find out all the little and big new features IBM Connections 4 has and I’m still finding new little gold nuggets of functionality each day. One that I came across while looking at Luis Benitez‘ video of new features in IBM Connections 4 (at approximately at 2:50) is the drag and drop in the files section of the browser to upload new files or versions. BLUG for Belux.. ehh BeNeLux Lotus User Group!

Yes, it has happened! As announced yesterday BLUG no longer stands for BeLux (Belgium and Luxembourg) Lotus User Group but now merges with the Dutch user group NLLUG to become the Benelux Lotus User Group! I think this is great. As most of us who actively visit User Groups know the one thing that any user group needs is a strong and preferable independent leadership. KLM: Surving the social media tidle wave

Earlier today KLM, the biggest flight operator at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam experienced problems after a software update. It caused their site, booking systems and other operations to fail and caused lots of delays and disruption at their main hub, Schiphol Airport. I’m working on a project where a customer is evaluating several social business platforms for an onsite implementation. To get him a better feel of what Connections could do for them I helped him set up a community in Greenhouse and told him how to invite his project members. Microsoft buying Yammer: big steps forward or stifling a promising hatchling?

Some interesting discussion going on this week about Social Business, Yammer being bought by Microsoft one of them. Until now I really haven’t given my opinion on it even though I was asked a lot about it as I have been blogging a few times about Yammer before. Interesting discussion this morning with Sharon Bellamy on availability. If you put your Sametime on ‘Do Not Disturb’ the system will offer you to send an e-mail instead.
