With the challenges over at GBS/BleedYellow I have decided to move my blog, and after considering a few options have decided to give WordPress a spin.  You can find my old blog posts here. I am happy to report that it looks like the issues BleedYellow was experiencing appear to be resolved, but I am going to take the opportunity to learn a bit about WordPress anyway.

So off we go to 2014.  And yes, I know it’s March already.  We are 9 weeks in and I have been busy, busy, busy.  There are a couple of things I’d like to draw attention to that have meant such a big start to 2014 for me.

The first is that I have joined with my colleagues at Wmode Inc. to make their AppXtender tool freely available to the Yellowverse via OpenNTF.  AppXtender is a Lotus Notes application that allows you to provide access to your Notes and Domino applications via mobile devices without any need for custom development.  That’s right, no need to know anything about mobile app development and you can give your users access to your Notes apps via mobile devices.

There are a couple of different flavours of AppXtender, one that supports HTML5 mobile web pages and one that supports native mobile apps.  The HTML5 version was posted to OpenNTF in January, along with documentation and screenshots.  The native app version is available for purchase from Wmode, and you can contact me if you have any questions.

The other thing that kept me busy to start the year was the opportunity to speak at IBM Connect 2014.  Serdar Basegmez and I gave a presentation on using the IBM Social Business Toolkit to begin learning how to build social capabilities into your applications.  The slides are available here, and the source code is available here.

I will be blogging more about the concepts we presented, especially the demo where we showed how to hook into any traditional Lotus Notes workflow application to publish Activity Stream entries in IBM Connections and SmartCloud for Social Business.
