What’s New in SharePoint 15?

SharePoint 15

Sometime in early next year we’ll see the release of the next version of SharePoint and with we’re going to see a host of new features, functionality and fixes. It looks like the product is going to include a great deal of features that are part of the evolution as a collaboration and enterprise social networking tool. In addition the purchase of Yammer helps solidify Microsoft’s presence in both the cloud and internal applications.

Ok, here’s a few of the cool new features…

SharePoint Apps Marketplace

SharePoint Apps and a marketplace to go with it. In SharePoint 15 Microsoft is introducing this highly anticipated feature and functionality. As the world seems to embrace small applications and widgets it only makes sense that this should be included in a collaborative social enterprise tool.

MDS

MDS stands for Minimal Download Strategy which is a newer technology that allows websites to consume less bandwidth than sites with traditional technologies.  Essentially MDS is a smart technology that requests only the additional information needed to display the next selected page. For example much of the current information will remain the same, the only thing that typically changes is content.

SharePoint Online 2013

  • Duet-A cloud version of the Enterprise version that integrates SharePoint and SAP applications.
  • Apple IPad support
  • Project Online
  • Metro Style Interface (Also included in the on-site version)
  • Rights Management Services
  • Web apps (run form a new Office Web Apps Server)

These are just a few of the many cool new features to grace SharePoint 2013. I recommend further reading in some of the articles below for a more complete picture.
