Our version of the IBM Mail Next 'Faceted Search'
Tue, Jun 24th 2014 11:13p   IONET Software
In a recent webcast, IBM demonstrated several aspects of the search capabilities in IBM Mail Next. Once of these was 'faceted search', which allows users to choose elements of the result set (facets) and refine their query using that data. To show how our search product, the FT Search Manager, can also provide faceted searching, we've put together the short video below (the other Mail Next search functionality mentioned, searching Sametime Chats Transcripts, we can already do). Searching Sametime Chat Transcripts
Wed, Apr 30th 2014 11:10p   IONET Software
To further extend our FT Search Manager product, we've added the ability to index and search local Sametime Chat Transcripts. This means users can search their Mail, Archives, Chats, Applications and File Systems, at the same time, from anywhere in the Notes Client. And they don't need to do anything - if they have chats on their PC, they'll be automatically available for searching. To try it out yourself, just download a demo from http://www.ionetsoftware.com/search. Search Interface [read] Keywords: ibm notes notes client noteslotus sametime applications interface

Adding Search Options to iNotes Mobile Search
Mon, Mar 17th 2014 3:11p   IONET Software
To complete our iNotes Mobile Search product - giving mobile users full access to all of their historical mail data - we've added user search options. Administrators can still default and/or hide whatever settings they want, but this allows users more control over their mobile search environment. This makes it even easier for them to find any mail (including archives) when on the road. 1. Mobile Home (with new Search icon) 2. Search Interface 3. To better demonstrate our iNotes Mobile search product (shown below), we've added a YouTube video to the product page here http://www.ionetsoftware.com/inotes. The function of this tool is to expose ALL Notes Mail & Archives to the iNotes Mobile Client, thereby enhancing Mobile Mail capabilities for either iNotes or Traveler Clients. New Feature - iNotes Mobile Searching
Thu, Jan 16th 2014 9:12p   IONET Software
The Problem In the standard iNotes environment, Mobile Clients (e.g. using a Smartphone) have no search capability at all, and Full Clients (using a Browser) can only search the mail file that's currently in use. Therefore to find and use an existing email with the Mobile Client, you have to start at the latest email, and scroll backwards until you find it. To find an email in an archive database, you have to open that archive individually, and then start scrolling backwards through the pages. New features in the FT Search Manager
Thu, Dec 5th 2013 6:13p   IONET Software
Over the past month we've added some new features to the FT Search Manager. These are; 1. Attachment Name searching. Which allows you to search attachment names within documents, not possible with standard Notes searching. For example, you can search on strings like "Budget 2014", wildcards like '*.xls', or multiple operators like 'xls OR pdf'. You can also combine those queries with normal queries, e.g. to find all PDFs sent to acme.com in the last 3 months. This functionality also appl [read] Keywords: acl ibm inotes notes noteslotus interface mobile

Improving user efficiency in a Notes environment
Wed, Aug 28th 2013 11:14p   IONET Software
Earlier this month, we ran a survey with our FT Search Manager users. We asked them how much time, per employee per week, they thought the FT Search Manager was saving them. The average answer was 1 hour 23 minutes per person, per week. That equates to a saving of 8.3 days per person, per year, as described by the users themselves. Note that we restricted the survey results to 'general' searching only, e.g. Mail/Archive & Application searching, because companies using the FT Search Mana [read] Keywords: notes application archive email

Searching Within Results in the Notes Client
Wed, Aug 21st 2013 6:13a   IONET Software
The latest version of the FT Search Manager allows you to 'Search Within Results' in the Notes Client. This means that when searching your Mail & Archives, Applications, or performing Discovery/Compliance searching, you can search within the result set multiple times, and also back out each step (e.g. to change a search term, correct a typo etc). Refining a search in this way makes it a lot easier to find target information. For example, a search of Mail & Archives for 'IBM', in [read] Keywords: ibm notes notes client applications

Searching Applications & File Systems directly from the Notes Client
Mon, May 13th 2013 11:13p   IONET Software
New functionality in the R9 Notes Client has finally allowed us to integrate our search tool properly into the Notes Search List, via Widget, as below; You could for example search your Notes Applications & Application Suites, server-based File Systems, and Quickr, all at the same time and directly from Notes. You can then add your Mail, Mail Archives, and local PC files to the list. That's a quick way to search a lot of information, and therefore save a lot of time. Adding value to Lotus Notes
Thu, Feb 14th 2013 7:08p   IONET Software
One of our partners asked recently how they could add value to Notes for their customers. To that end, we've put together the following brief guide of how we think our software can add value to Notes and save customers money. 1. Adding search highlighting to Notes documents
Wed, Oct 24th 2012 10:10p   IONET Software
As part of a recent upgrade to our FT Search Manager product, we added a workaround/hack to offer (optional) search highlighting to Notes Mail documents. For quite some time, this functionality has been 'available' in standard Notes Full Text searches, although it seems pretty hit and miss, and usually doesn't work with MIME content. As for the Agent property ''Store highlights in document", we've never found a way to use it (has anyone?) The limitations of Notes Mail searching
Mon, Sep 24th 2012 12:13a   IONET Software
Lotus Notes is great at many things, but the native search capability is not one of them. A majority of Notes Mail users will have personal silos of information, most of it corporate, stacked up in their mail file and possibly also contained in several archive databases. When they want to search that information, they have to know roughly where the target resides, i.e. their production mail or whatever archive, because there is no central index. That means opening each database manually and se [read] Keywords: ibm lotus notes archive blogger database email

The latest addition to our Notes FT Search Manager is (optional) Category-based searching directly from the Results Page, as per most common Web search engines. This means the Results Page also displays the available Categories, so users can refine their search, using both Notes or Web. If you're using a Category-based search originally, the Category list is the same, otherwise it's based on the Categories defined for your selected Databases (and even documents within each Database can be [read] Keywords: notes notes client blogger css database google

Free Notes Domain Search Extension
Thu, Aug 30th 2012 4:13p   IONET Software
Many Notes environments will have tried the Domain Index/Domain Search at some time or another, but few will actually use it. This is because while it's fast and free, the User Functionality is poor and the User Interface is not great. It hasn't noticeably changed since it was first introduced. So to improve it, we've added a free Domain Search Extender* to our FT Search Manager tool, seamlessly integrating with the existing Notes Client & Web Browser Domain Search. Announcing the Notes Domain Search Extender
Thu, Aug 2nd 2012 6:14a   IONET Software
Most Notes environments will have tried the Domain Index/Domain Search at some time or another, but few actually use it. While it's fast, free, and the concept of indexing to a central repository is good, the User Interface and User Functionality is pretty average. To improve this, we've added a (very) low-cost Domain Search Extender to our popular FT Search Manager tool, seamlessly integrating with the existing Notes Client & Web Browser Domain Search. iNotes getNonce change
Thu, May 24th 2012 8:10p   IONET Software
If you're using the iNotes Extension database (usually forms85_x.nsf) to extend iNotes, and using a 'nonce' (not to be confused with the slang term), you might be interested to know that between 8.5.2 & 8.5.3 the syntax changed. If you couldn't understand why the call fails with 8.5.3, and you found this post via web search, hopefully it will help. Change thisAAA.getNonce(); to thisAAA.HHT ? Speeding up Notes applications

Our FT Search Manager product (http://www.ionetsoftware.com/search) has been around for a while now, and being a search tool, we're always trying to increase it's search speed. The latest version (4.6 - sound familiar?) is a lot faster than previous versions - FYI here's a short YouTube demo showing the faster speed achieved http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFcxSQ8PaIM. Getting the most from your Notes environment
Wed, Apr 11th 2012 7:10p   IONET Software
One of the problems with the continual upgrade cycle of computing (--> Connections, Quickr, XPages etc) is that it doesn't make efficient use of your existing environment - it's like buying a new TV when you could improve your viewing by re-tuning the old one. Notes has been around for 20+ years, and it's distributed nature means users have their data scattered around many locations - Mail, Archives, Discussions, Document Repositories, File Systems, Apps, Quickr etc. Over time, finding t [read] Keywords: connections notes quickr xpages blogger

Search speed improvements
Mon, Feb 13th 2012 8:11p   IONET Software
We're pleased to announce that the latest version of the FT Search Manager (v4.3) is at least 25% faster than older versions - and often more, depending on the content being searched. This was achieved by rewriting the Notes search engine, so that each search thread first identifies the top x documents matching it's criteria & sort options, e.g. 'Person contains *acme*' & 'newest first', and then populates only enough results to make up the first result page. The last thread to fin [read] Keywords: notes blogger

A better Notes Mail search
Thu, Jan 26th 2012 9:10p   IONET Software
Since the start of 2012, we've spent a lot of time adding functions to our FT Search Manager product, specifically for Mail & Archive searching. The results are much, much easier to use, and it's by far the easiest way to find mail you're looking for, no matter it's location. Archiver for Notes - Automatic Updates
Wed, Oct 12th 2011 5:10p   IONET Software
One of the features that gets most use in our Archiver for Notes and Search Manager products is automatic updating. This is an optional setting that can be used to auto-update the products in a customer environment, most usually to add bugfixes. Loading file urls in the native application via Notes
Wed, Aug 24th 2011 11:42p   IONET Software
When working on our File Indexing/Searching product, we noticed that when using a Notes Client to open HTML links to a url starting file://, the target file would open in the Browser, if the Browser was able to recognise the extension. What we wanted was the file to open in it's native application. For example, a link to file://c:/test.pdf would load test.pdf in the default Browser, and not in Acrobat, even if Acrobat was installed on the PC.
