Are you into 80's new wave/alternative music? Do you remember WLIR?
Fri, May 3rd 2013 5:40a Jim Casale If you've lived in the 80's and
90's and you were into new wave/alternative have I got good news for you.
The premier radio station in the New York City area for new wave/alternative
from 80's and 90's is back. And since it's online you don't have to live
here to enjoy it.
I remember listening to WLIR both at work and at home back in the day.
I was never a pop music sort of guy and the songs WLIR picked were innovative
and ground breaking. All of the other stations in the New Y [read] Keywords:
Does Bill Gates have nothing better to do?
Tue, Apr 9th 2013 4:07a Jim Casale I recently became aware of an
initiative by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation
to track student information. The merits of such
a system could be debated but
what cannot be debated is the fact that not one New York City parent was
asked, or even told, about this use of their child's data.
Some of you may say that the age of
privacy is gone with Social Media, etc being all the rage. This issue has
nothing to do with Twitter, Facebook, etc. When I choose to use these services

Windows 7 issue running under Linux KVM
Mon, Sep 10th 2012 9:17a Jim Casale I recently ran into a problem where all
my Windows 7 vm's running under Linux KVM would start and then crash before
the Windows login screen. All the other vm's (Windows 2008-2003, Windows
XP, various flavors of Linux did not have an issue. I keep up to date on
all patches on the host and the vm's so I figured it had to be something
that was updated. I am still not sure which side of the equation is to
blame but suffice to say, after much trial and error, I found by disabling

Phone Spam and Telemarketers
Wed, Sep 5th 2012 7:30a Jim Casale If you are like many Americans you are
probably getting a bunch of spam phone calls even though you maybe on the
FTC's Do Not Call list. To say
the Do Not Call list is a joke would be an understatement.
You can normally tell a spam phone call
by the Caller ID such as
Toll Free Call

These are just some of the many fictitious
names used by phone spammers.

Thu, May 31st 2012 5:11p Jim Casale Our beloved Mayor of New York City has

Huh? So in essence you can't be fat but you can be dead.
For the record I don't think drinking

Is Chrome really the #1 browser?
Wed, May 23rd 2012 6:11a Jim Casale Recent headlines proclaim chrome is the
#1 browser on the World Wide Web. I have to question how accurate that
statement is and how did they get to the #1 spot if true.
You have to wonder how much software
bundling has to play in browser stats. It's no secret there are many "free"
software packages out there that bundle additional software. How many people
actually uncheck this option?
And there is the wonderful world of
statistics and how they are generated and co [read] Keywords: google
Why I donate
Mon, Apr 30th 2012 4:54a Jim Casale If you follow me on Twitter or 4Square
you have probably seen me check-in at Long Island Blood Services. For those
of you wondering it's not because I am sickly. I am there for my regular
platelet donation. Some of you may also be wondering why I donate, or better
yet, why I donate so often (every 2 weeks - and contrary to what I joking

movie - a shriveled up sponge).

What's wrong with this picture - literally
Fri, Feb 10th 2012 5:05a Jim Casale A recent visit to my sons school shows
me how inept New York City can be.
There is a supposed to be a special
entrance for the FDNY
but I am wondering - how they
are supposed to get over the concrete barriers that were installed?
So now you have 3 schools on a campus
that is fenced in with only one (main) entrance that the FDNY can use.
I guess I shouldn't tell you the road from the main entrance to the 3 schools
is too narrow for firetrucks to navigate. Unbe [read] Keywords:

The saddest and happiest day of our lives
Sun, Sep 11th 2011 6:13a Jim Casale It was 10 years ago today America was attacked
by terrorists. Both my wife and I knew people who died at the WTC and know
NYC fireman and police officers who worked at ground zero.
It was 28 years ago today I made the
best decision in my life and married my wife (although some days I bet
she might wonder about her decision)
For the last 10 years we have unofficially

Tue, Jul 19th 2011 4:55a Jim Casale A recent problem with my Slingbox has left

recommend against purchasing any Sling Media product.
A few weeks ago my Slingbox stream started

the quality of Internet was poor, and other assorted oddities. I had attributed
it to poor Internet service as I was already having issues with VPN disconnection
and not being able surf the web.

Issues with Domino SNMP on partitioned AIX servers
Mon, Apr 4th 2011 6:09a Jim Casale It appears Domino SNMP on partitioned AIX

the Domino LNSNMP service as per the instructions. If you load the quryset
task on one of the Domino consoles the task loads as it should. You can

Slow network response in VMware Server
Wed, Feb 23rd 2011 5:11a Jim Casale Have you been working with VMware on your

slow networking. At the time I had just attributed it to trying to do too
much at once on my laptop. It turns out that was not the case.

DAOS is two years old
Mon, Feb 14th 2011 5:23a Jim Casale I never did get to ask the Product Managers
at LS11 when they will add DAOS support to the Domino backup API. You'd
think two years after introducing a really killer feature for Domino they
would make it a bit easier to backup Domino when that killer feature is
enabled. DAOS is by no means extremely hard to backup. It's just
more up front work for administrators, as well as sometimes problematic
should you have to restore a DAOS enabled application with missing NLO's

Disney Magical Express and flights on non US carriers
Mon, Jan 17th 2011 8:12a Jim Casale After setting up my reservation for the

One more take on the TSA procedures
Sun, Nov 21st 2010 10:12a Jim Casale It's obvious the TSA has been under fire

what they feel is intrusive, degrading, and harmful screening now being

process currently being implemented by the TSA.

Sametime 8.5.1 Media Manager issues
Mon, Aug 30th 2010 4:26a Jim Casale If you are installing or upgrading to Sametime
