A big day for the OOXML community ... On February 21, 2008, I posted on Microsoft Interoperability Principles, which are designed to make our products more open and more available to the broader software community. Since that day, Microsoft has made several strides in this area, too many to recount here and now, but largely explained by the Interoperability@Microsoft team. Today we are making an important advance in the area of document format interoperability for Office, as part of our ongoin [read] Keywords: application applications archive community development javascript microsoft office ooxml sharepoint xml

Thu, Feb 25th 2010 11:51a   John Head
So as you can see, this site has a new look. Something a bit more current, a bit more polish, and a bit more focus on what I do on a daily basis. The color scheme matches the PSC look, but this is definitely my site. A bit of the 'edge' is gone - notice that the website title is just "John D. Head" not "John D. Head aka Starfish" - and the World of Warcraft image is gone. Not that this site will go super stuffy, but I wanted this site to be more a reflection on how I have changed. Changes in Content: Going from the rapid fire firehose method to something more structured
Wed, Feb 24th 2010 4:30p   John Head
As my blog site is getting a visual makeover, so is the way in which I want to deliver content. I started this internal review process over the holidays, but it is interesting it came up recently in the Lotus community. So first, this is not a commentary on anything other than my process. So I have noticed that so many people are posting content on their blog in a rapid fire fashion. They turn on the 'firehose' and just put up content. Lots of posts, as often as possible. Much of this comes f [read] Keywords: inotes lotus notes symphony xpages application blogging community microsoft office openntf planetlotus planetlotus.org

Today is Paczki Day!
Tue, Feb 16th 2010 12:10p   John Head
This time of year, one of my favorite days is Paczki Day. Today is Paczki Day (well, at least in my family tradition - some people celebrate Paczki Thursday), which just happens to be Fat Tuesday or the day before Lent. Paczki (Punch-key) are delicious, jelly filled dough balls covered with server types of sugar or glaze. The idea behind Paczki's is that on Ostatki (Fat Tuesday), Polish bakers make paczki because 40 days of fasting is about to begin and the cooks must use up the ingredients in t [read] Keywords: server wiki

Tue, Feb 16th 2010 11:10a   John Head
As many of my readers know, one of the areas that PSC has invested quite a bit of time in the past 24 months is around Document Generation. Document Generation is defined (by myself) as the ability to generate a document, based on a format, without having any software installed to generate or render the document. This can be done client or server side. I have done quite a bit of blogging on the topic - and taken both Microsoft and IBM to task. Lotusphere 2010 : The unheard commitment to LotusScript by IBM at Lotusphere
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 11:11a   John Head
So there has been lots of talk from IBM this week to developers about how 'your skills are still relevant' and 'your applications will still be supported' - many times in multiple sessions (Nathan and I were keeping track of how many times Brent said "relevant" in the App Dev keynote! ). But I have also heard some of the developers asking about specific statements around the current tools and apis like LotusScript. "Will I still write LotusScript in Project Vulcan?" and the like. Lotusphere 2010 : Lotus is taking the lead in HTML5 and other technologies
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 11:11a   John Head
One of the many themes that IBM wanted people to come away from Lotusphere 2010 is that Lotus is going to be a leader in current technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, Webkit, Open Social, and OpenID & OAuth. This is not just about IBM enabling these technologies, but in leading in how they are implemented and used. It's time for the amazing team of engineers at IBM to take the global stage and LEAD. I look forward to seeing how they do that, what tools they use to spread the message, and how the [read] Keywords: ibm lotus lotusphere

Lotusphere 2010 : Lotus Symphony 3 Announced
Wed, Jan 27th 2010 11:11a   John Head
Ed and Kevin made the formal announcement during their session today and there is lots of great news. Lotus Symphony 3 is built on top of the OpenOffice.org 3.X code base (it's the latest) and has been numbered to align with that code base. I was able to see a demo of the product before today and a few things I wanted to highlight: The User Interface has had a complete makeover. Today marks my 9 year anniversary with PSC. In 2000, when Syngeristics was becoming a sinking ship (Steve Osborne left in June, Henry in late summer, Rocky in October), I went looking for a short term job before I knew what I wanted to do next. 9 years later, I guess I can take the "short term" label off my career here :-) Just wanted to say thanks to Andrew, Bruce, Jim, and Alex for years of support; John, RJ, Rick, and Chris M for recent support and all of the other folks at PSC that have [read] Keywords:

Yellow Day - How are you celebrating?
Tue, Aug 11th 2009 11:19a   John Head
August 11th is Yellow Day - How are you celebrating? Unfortunately the project I have been working on for release today will not come out today (not due to my code for once, but for something I am waiting for to appear on OpenNTF.org before I can post). Hopefully soon! So wear yellow today. Post a blog post. Answer some postings in the LDD forums. Twitter using #LotusKnows or #YellowDay all day long. Celebrate the community.
