Why STEM education matters - The Lumity Story
Tue, Apr 22nd 2014 9:50a   John D Head
I have talked about Lumity before on my blog, but I wanted to share why I think it's mission matters. Here is a great video that we created for our Annual Dinner earlier this month: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfRFqTxOIjY I am proud to be involved with Lumity as a board member, and helping with the services arm, but the STEM initiative is something I really believe in. My career path was not a straight arrow, and my STEM schooling as a kid really had an impact. I am looking forward to [read] Keywords:

Selling XPages - what matters?
Fri, Apr 4th 2014 7:50a   John D Head
The XPages community has had an active two weeks of discussions, kicked off by my coworker Mark Roden's post Why learning JavaScript is more critical to XPage developers than Java. This inspired many comments and other posts and videos. Yesterday, Microsoft made quite a few announcements around OneNote. Here is a list of what is new: OneNote for the Mac OneNote is free! OneNote API and a bunch of apps - including IFTTT! IBM Connect 2014: My take on the OGS
Mon, Feb 3rd 2014 2:40p   John D Head
IBM Connect 2014 is over and many are writing their impressions on the conference. I won't go into rumors or thoughts about the future in my musings, but there are a few things I would like to recap. The first is the Opening General Session, otherwise known as the OGS. Reading the other thoughts on the OGS out there, I realize I am in the minority on my reaction. I thought the OGS was exactly what IBM has been trying to achieve the past few years. There was a very interesting posting on TechCrunch by Semil Shah this morning entitled Rethinking the Seductiveness of Mobile-First. The artcile talks about some reasons why an application should be targeted at the web first, not mobile. The mobile disruption while make mobile your target platform
Thu, Oct 10th 2013 8:21a   John D Head
The disruption in the application space is having an impact on every technology. That major impact is in the preferred client type for any enterprise application, bought or built. The prediction is that by 2017, 90% of the enterprise apps will be both desktop and mobile, up from 20% in 2013. (Gartner Predicts, 2012). Think about that ... within the next four years, no matter the platform, the majority of development you do will be consumed by users on a mobile device. Are you prepared for that? Setting Goals, Achieving Goals, and Knocking Goals out of the Park
Wed, Sep 26th 2012 10:00a   John D Head
I have talked about my transition from consultant to business development (sales) on the blog before, even sharing the results of my first full year in 2011. As all salespeople do, goal planning is an important part of the 4th quarter of every year. Salespeople have a goal set that is very specific and very measurable - it's your quota. I have been very lucky to be part of an amazing organization and having a great boss who have set that quota in steps. Those steps were always a reach, but neve [read] Keywords: development
