Connections 4.0 – Metrics and CR2
Wed, Feb 6th 2013 6:08a Jonathan Halman There is an issue with displaying Metrics within IBM Connections 4.0 if your servers are in the GMT timezone, the effect of which is that Metrics are simply not displayed (as shown in the screen shot below).
There is a fix for this issue, ifix LO72778, but after installing CR2 I found the problem re-occurred. To resolve it I realised I would need to re-apply ifix LO72778 which meant I had to do the following:
1. Uninstall the Metrics component of CR2 (LO72170-IC4000-CR02-Metrics)
2. Uninstal [read] Keywords: connections
DB2 Control Center launch issue on Windows 2008 Server
Mon, Apr 30th 2012 6:10a Jonathan Halman I came across an issue recently where the DB2 Control Center was hanging when trying to start it on a Windows 2008 Server. The splash screen would appear and then just sit there. Looking at Task Manager I could see a process – db2javit.exe – consuming nearly 100% of the CPU so I decided to kill it before it became an issue (thankfully the server was not in production at this stage) at which point the DB2 Control Center started.
After a couple more tests I discovered that, rather than [read] Keywords: db2
Don’t fall foul of IBM’s trademark
Mon, Jan 23rd 2012 9:09a Jonathan Halman OK, sorry the headline is far more dramatic than the content of the article, but I promise it is relevant.
Whilst upgrading a Connections environment to 3.0.1 using a response file I got the following error:
Invalid byte 1 of 1-byte UTF-8 sequence.
00:00.34 ERROR [main] com.ibm.cic.agent.internal.application.HeadlessApplication run
Invalid byte 1 of 1-byte UTF-8 sequence
After a quick check of the response file and I could see a strange character (a black diamond with a white question mark in [read] Keywords: agent
IBM Connections – Incorrect Global Moderation Alerts
Mon, Nov 7th 2011 7:10a Jonathan Halman I’ve been working with a customer recently on Moderation within IBM Connections 3.0.1 and we discovered an issue where alerts are being sent to Global Moderators when they shouldn’t.
In this scenario pre-moderation (content approval) is disabled but post-moderation (content flagging) is enabled and Blog owners (both Community and standalone) are allowed to moderate comments on their blogs.
If a Blog owner enables moderation on comments then they will receive a notification asking the [read] Keywords: connections
The consultant’s toolkit
Sun, Sep 25th 2011 6:09a Jonathan Halman I’ve been lucky enough to work with Dave Hay on several projects and always find him very generous in sharing his knowledge and experience but on the latest project where we worked together he taught me (and I suspect a few others) one of the most important things I will learn, so much so I have to share it.
The project we were working on required the team to work some long hours and each evening our meal was a take-away at our desks. After pizza and then burgers obviously it was only a [read] Keywords: facebook
TDI import troubleshooting
Mon, Apr 18th 2011 7:11a Jonathan Halman TDI is on my list of products I need to know more about. At Lotusphere this year I went to a ‘Show and Tell’ presentation on TDI – ‘Assemble ‘n Go: Integrate Data and Directories with Tivoli Directory Integrator’ which really showed the power of the product. My experience so far has been limited to its interaction with Lotus Connections (synchronising Profiles with various directories)
One of the questions I’ve been asked a couple of times recently (henc [read] Keywords: connections

Graphical libraries needed for silent LC3 installation?
Mon, Feb 14th 2011 5:19a Jonathan Halman There seems to be an issue with the silent install process for Lotus Connections 3.0 on Linux as it requires two graphical libraries (listed below) to be installed for it to work.
I could understand the need for these if I was running a GUI install but not when I’m running a silent install with a response file. Thankfully identifying which precise libraries were required was quick and painless (for me) due to the skill of my colleague Richar [read] Keywords: connections
TDI fixpack installation error
Tue, Jan 4th 2011 5:17a Jonathan Halman As part of Lotus Connections 3.0 install I got this error whilst installing Fix Pack 5 for TDI on 64-bit Linux:
CTGDKO010W While executing an operating system command, a non-zero return code was returned. Return code=13; Message
The installation seemed to complete successfully but I was concerned it case it hadn’t. I removed the Fix Pack, turned on debugging (edit /opt/IBM/TDI/V7.0/etc/updateinstaller-log4j.properties and change the log level from INFO to DEBUG), and then installed the fix [read] Keywords: connections
Fri, Sep 24th 2010 2:00p Jonathan Halman I was fortunate enough to go to the Collaboration University in London this week and listen to some very smart people talk about Quickr and Sametime. It was particularly good to see and hear about Quickr 8.5 which had only been released 8 days before. I’m looking forward to testing Quickr integration with ECM in our lab which thanks to Rob Novaks presentation should be a lot easier (especially as this has not been properly documented yet).
Something that I notice more and more is the numbe [read] Keywords: collaboration
LotusLive and on-premises integration
Thu, Aug 12th 2010 3:30a Jonathan Halman Here’s something I didn’t know, you can integrate the offering from LotusLive with your existing on-premises Notes/Domino infrastructure. All you need is a Domino server in the DMZ and an OU certifier. There’s an article on Nathan Freeman’s blog that explains it well.
This straightforward hybrid approach is exactly where cloud offerings need to be, giving greater flexibility rather than the one-size fits all scenario. [read] Keywords: domino
