Notes and Domino 8.5 is released
Tue, Jan 6th 2009 12:59a Kai Benjaminsen Mary Beth Raven made a post on Notes Design Blog that Domino 8.5 was available for download January 6th, so I headed over to the Passport Advantage site to check if I was able to download it right away. But then I discovered that I was unable to download Notes and Domino at all.... All I could get was this: Now I gotta check later on today to see if this still is a problem, or if it's just a temporary situation. It would be a disaster if I cannot download Notes and Domino versions any [read] Keywords: domino

Typealyzer/Briggs Myers Type Indicator/Jungian Type Index - are they correct at all?
Mon, Nov 24th 2008 5:52a Kai Benjaminsen This morning I found the Typealyzer site where I can enter the address of my blog, and see what kind of person I am based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. What was the result? According to this "test" I am a ESTJ person. Where ESTJ stands for Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging. Is this correct? Not quite, but pretty close. Some years ago I took a similar test based on the Jungian Type Index, which is almost the same as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The result? ISTJ, where ISTJ stan [read] Keywords: wiki

IBM Software Day
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 5:51a Kai Benjaminsen Yesterday I attended IBM Software Day 2008 in Oslo. It was the 8th time this arrangement was taking place, and my third consecutive year attending. But now I start wondering if this arrangement is jinxed for my attendance. The first year I got a flu and high fever that day, and had to go home early. Last year we had some servers going down, and needed immediate attention. And now the same thing happened. The program of Sofware Day was exciting, and I really looked forward to some of the sessio [read] Keywords: ibm

DME Partner Training and Certification Test
Tue, Oct 21st 2008 3:52a Kai Benjaminsen In the end of September I went to Denmark for DME Partner Training. 3 days with two tech sales guys, trying to learn us something about DME Sync. At the partner training, there were 8 participants, myself included. A colleague of mine were also attending, so we had time to discuss issues and tasks presented. The training itself was somewhat basic, but it was good to get a review of all features and possibilities. What I missed was more advanced troubleshooting, but maybe they will set up anothe [read] Keywords: email

Christmas Eve dinner preparations started today
Tue, Oct 7th 2008 1:52p Kai Benjaminsen Startet preparing the meat for a pre-Christmas dinner and Christmas Eve dinner today, pinnekjøtt. Went to the grocery store and bought 4 ribs of lamb. Washed away any blood left on the meat and rubbed it with salt. Now it's going to rest for 3 days in salt, and on Friday I'll wash off the salt and start the process of drying the meat. In December it will be two delicious dinners. An 'till it's time to eat this, I have to live with the smell of drying meat.... But I know what's coming.... yumm [read] Keywords: wiki

Mon, Oct 6th 2008 8:53a Kai Benjaminsen When Ubuntu 8.04 was released I read that you could install Ubuntu on a computer which already ran Windows. So when starting the computer you got an option to choose which OS you would run, like a multiboot. With my new computer I wanted to test this, and googled this. Some ramblings
Sun, Oct 5th 2008 4:51p Kai Benjaminsen Bought myself a new computer this week, for private use. I bought a HP Pavilion dv5z series with 4 GB RAM and 320 Gb disk. Spent a couple of days setting it up, and I'm still not finished. I have not stressed finishing though, as I'm not totally sure what to install. Been thinking of installing Ubuntu 8.0.4 on it as this is supposed to install next to Windows. I need to think about it for a couple of days. Sat, Sep 27th 2008 2:51a Kai Benjaminsen I've been quiet for the last 1,5 week. Collaboration University was good, and I really liked the session Warren Elsmore had about clustering. UKLUG was good. The venue was excellent, the keynote from Ed Brill was very good, the Mainsoft session about integrating Sharepoint with Notes was very good. Adminblast with Paul Mooney is "always" good, and fun. The road to Collaboration University in London
Sun, Sep 14th 2008 4:55p Kai Benjaminsen Today I left home at 10.45 to get to the airport to go to London. Flying with Ryanair is sometimes an extreme sport, but usually it's OK, and fortunately today as well. Got off the plane, got my suitcase and went for buying train tickets. No trains due to a fatality. Hmmm... this is not good. I wonder what has happened. Was told to take the bus to Liverpool Street station, so I went outside for the bus terminal. A long queue for getting tickets, some sort of organised chaos. Ticket £9 from Sta [read] Keywords: collaboration

Fårikål...mmm

That's a real FEAST!!! 5 years ago I did not like the taste of sheep at all, but now I love it. Fårikål is soooo good. Got a new mobile phone today; Nokia E71
Fri, Sep 12th 2008 3:09p Kai Benjaminsen Today I got myself a new mobile phone; Nokia E71. What's the verdict? I like it, a lot. The keyboard is nice, and fits "like a glove". The screen is good, and the menus are quite easy to use. The battery capasity is also supposed to be good. One negative thing is the QWERTY keyboard, at least in the beginning. This prison was built in 1942 by the government lead by Vidkun Quisling. When built it was named Berg Interneringleir (Berg Internment Camp). When the Nazis started gathering Jews for sending them to Concentration camps in Germany, Berg was used as a transit camp. 227 Jews were sent to Auschwitz in Poland from Berg, where only 7 of these survived. Admin tip – How to change the contact address of a certifier
Wed, Jul 16th 2008 1:18a Kai Benjaminsen When you register a new certifier in your Domino directory, you can choose to set an address for which a user can send a certification update request when the certifiate is about to expire. I have seen domains where this address is changed after creating the certifiate, and spent some time finding out how to change this. The solution is quite easy, and you say 'Of course, it had to be there', but this is not necessarily the thing you think about. Here we go. Access your Domino Directory, eithe [read] Keywords: admin

Accessing a server from remote using mstsc
Mon, Jul 14th 2008 2:35p Kai Benjaminsen Some of our servers are hosted externally, and we're accessing the OS using VPN and terminal services client. After installing the service pack 1 for Windows Vista on Thursday, suddenly I didn't see the Domino server console on our servers when I logged in using mstsc -console. I spent a few hours figuring out why, and got a tip about this article: http://blogs.msdn.com/nickmac/archive/2007/11/28/mstsc-console-switch-in-windows-server-2008-and-windows-vista-sp1.aspx Then everything fell in its [read] Keywords: admin

iPhone sold out in 60 seconds
Sat, Jul 12th 2008 7:36a Kai Benjaminsen From the moment iPhone 3G was available for sale in Norway, it took 60 seconds(!) before the Norwegian mobile phone network provider, Netcom, was sold out at their webshop. Here's an article in Norwegian about this. I'm not sure if I'm going to get one myself, as I feel this is pretty much a hype, and if I must choose, I guess I would go for a BlackBerry Curve. But hey, the iPhone looks cool, but that's not enough for me. I have testet BlackBerry and it's integration with Lotus Notes, and it [read] Keywords: domino

Finally...
Sat, Jul 12th 2008 3:11a Kai Benjaminsen For the first time in 3 years I've had my mailfile residing on a mailserver on the latest Domino release( Domino 8.0.1), strange though as I'm one of the main administrators of my Domino domain. However, I haven't been responsible for the local mailservers, just the backbone of the domain. My client is always on the latest release (Notes 8.0.1 at the moment, I didn't want to use the 8.5 Beta 1 in production), and my mailfile is based on the latest template from OpenNTF Mail Experience 8.0.1.
