Email, and Email Services, are not a Commodity
Thu, Aug 6th 2015 12:00p   Keith Brooks
Do you think Email is a commodity, but SMTP service is not? If you think it is, have you planned for what happens when your primary mail service, including SMTP goes down? I doubt it, because most people do not even realize how email is broken down into parts that only a small bit are the responsibility of your own IT team. When you have in house email, everything, except the ISP providing your bandwidth, is your own world. You break it, you fix it. You do, or do not, plan for business interru

If you have been around long enough to follow this thread, then you know this is about the Daf Yomi which I am just about at the half way point. The 7 and a half year cycle to read and learn through all of the Babylonian Talmud. My posts from the 1st year anniversary and 2nd year anniversary in case you want to know more about it all. What have we learned this year? Currently we are in the midst of Nedarim or loosely translated as vows and not just simple things but serious "I will not do t

Quickr FixPack 47 Came Out

Look at that, a new fix pack. #47, we long ago passed the #42 and are heading to the magic #50 but first things first. IBM would like you to know the following: 2015/06/15 - Quickr for Domino Migration 8.5.1 to IBM Connections Content Manager 5.0 CR1Please find the updated instructions for migration on the IBM Connections Wiki in the Best Practices section:http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/lcwiki.nsf/dx/Migrating_Quickr_Domino_to_Connections_CCM You of course would like to know where to get this,

Amazon AWS Summit in Tel Aviv in Review
Mon, Jun 29th 2015 8:02a   Keith Brooks
I attended the Amazon AWS Summit event in Tel Aviv the other day and it was a very impressive roadshow event. How many roadshow events gather over 2,000 people to them in your country? This being a startup capital not surprising to see so many people in attendance. There was a 2 hour keynote given by Werner Vogels, Amazon CTO and the local Israel Territory Manager Harel Ifhar. Werner has been here a few times, this is not your typical CTO, hard not to like a guy that wears a suit with a Ra

Startups Against Blogging
Fri, Jun 12th 2015 3:35a   Keith Brooks
Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. The better ones, pack their blogs early for that flight into the stratosphere. Hubspot as an example, plans for a methodical path and even break out their blogging into 4 or more parts! Groupon started out as a blog and became the app/platform that is now common. Blogs can be powerful, but they can also be an albatross. The power lies in the long term view of indexed information about your company or business. The more you put into the SEO and links and u

Peek a Boo with O365 and Bits

Collaboration means different things to different people. Business collaboration is about sharing of information, ideas, details, actions, and presuming everyone does the same in return so you truly reach that 1+1=3 world. I am spending sometime on a side project with a company that is leveraging O365. On the outside looking in, it seems to be just what one wants for work. Online shared space for files, email, IM, ESN, team/group space, Office tools, and much more all wrapped up in one price a

A Rabbi Walks into a Social Media Stream
Tue, May 26th 2015 3:29p   Keith Brooks
Sure there is a joke here, leaving that to some of my funnier fiends. This is about a different view of being social, so hang on while I explain. This post is somewhat different than the original one posted over here a few days ago. What happens when you disagree with your Rabbi? No, you don't go to hell or get banned from synagogue, but in some places this is implausible. One should never go against their Rabbi's rulings! (For the record I never asked about the internet but the view is comp

Breaking Out of The Bubble
Fri, May 15th 2015 2:44a   Keith Brooks
What an amazing day I had yesterday! So full of life and learning, every day of work should be this great! How did it get to be this way? What did I do? Who did I meet? Where was I? My day started out like any other day, get up, wake up the kids, walk the dog, drop the kids off at school and then head East for about 15 minutes to the nearby city of Modiin. Modiin is about 10 km east of Ben Gurion Airport, 35 km southeast of Tel Aviv and about 30 km west of Jerusalem and 20km from Rehovot where

Explaining the Mixed Mindset of a Social Organization
Wed, May 6th 2015 7:40a   Keith Brooks
If you were not at my session at the Social Connections conference in Boston 2 weeks ago, you can still see and download my slides, but I don't think you will quite get the gist of the message I expressed. A catch-22 of great magnitude that while your outside persona is free to post, your "business" head is confused or full of fear. Let me explain. Email vs. Status Updates, or Single vs. Blended, is a metaphor for the way your organization works. Collaboration or as the marketers call it
