Better way to remove people from type-ahead/recent contacts
Kenio Carvalho

From Notes Tips

We've had plenty of tips surrounding Recent Contacts, and it's a highly talked-about area. In Notes 8.5.3, we've continued to improve how you can control Recent Contacts/type-ahead.

In the past, we made it easier to remove "incorrect" contacts from type-ahead, by letting you delete a contact from the right-click menu:
Image:Notes 8.5.3: Better way to remove people from type-ahead/recent contacts

But one problem with this method is that if you delete a contact from type-ahead in this way, they could be added back in automatically, if you send or receive more emails from them.

But in Notes 8.5.3, the new method avoids that :) Now, if you see an address that you do not want to appear in the Recent Contacts list, you can hide it by selecting the contact in the Recent Contacts view, and clicking the Hide in Typeahead button.

Hide in Typeahead button

Then, the address won't appear in type-ahead again, unless you click Show in Typeahead

Last month i migrate a from Portal V7.0.2 to V8.0.1. Today i receive a task to integrate some applications using WAB (Web Application Bridge). When i launch the Administration interface the Virtual Application Manager portlet was not there. I search for a solution but at the end i opened a PMR. This kind of problem was reported and to fix just run the following tasks: ConfigEngine.sh action-create-library-wp.vwat.engine ConfigEngine.sh action-create-resource-environment-provider- [read] Keywords: admin administration application applications interface portlet server

X Window and MAC
Wed, Sep 24th 2014 10:12a   Kenio Carvalho
I am using my MAC book as principal machine (i was a Windows user). Every day i need a ssh connection with servers to do admin tasks. On windows i use Mobaxterm the best tool i used to do things using ssh. My favorite feature is X Window to use graphical interfaces via x11 forward. There is no Mobaxterm for Mac, so i installed XQuartz http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/. To use the X Window start your connection (after setup XQuartz) using ssh -X user@server [read] Keywords: admin mac server

An issue has been identified that affects Notes Traveler calendar entries on some Apple devices that are upgraded to iOS 8.
Fri, Sep 19th 2014 2:37p   Kenio Carvalho
In some cases, after an Apple device is upgraded to iOS 8, some or all of the Calendar entries in the Notes Traveler account no longer appear on the device. It is important to note that although the Calendar entries do not appear on the device, the entries are NOT permanently lost. The missing entries, in fact, still exist in the user's Domino mail file, and they can be resynced to the device via this workaround [read] Keywords: domino ibm notes traveler apple

Using WGET to download software from IBM
Thu, Sep 18th 2014 1:13p   Kenio Carvalho
A few months ago I heard that it was possible to download files from Passport advantage using wget on a linux terminal. Never needed to test this until yesterday when I needed to upload 3 GB of files to a server (home office to datacenter) that had no possibility of using a browser to download from Passport Advantage. What I did was the following: 1 - Log on passport advantage (using my laptop) and looked for the desired software 2 - I changed the download option for https 3 - When [read] Keywords: ibm laptop linux office server

Best Practices to manage and maintain Domino Attachment and Object Service (DAOS)
Wed, Sep 3rd 2014 11:12a   Kenio Carvalho
Below are some basic points that one should remember as best practices to manage and maintain DAOS feature in IBM Notes Domino environment. Domino server must be 8.5.x and onwards. All database ODS must be 48 and onwards. Transaction Logging must be enabled on server and it is recommended to keep transaction log directory outside of domino/data folder, in a separate drive. DAOS Directory path should be kept out of Domino/Data directory, in a separate drive. Make sure DAOS Catalog Status al [read] Keywords: domino ibm notes ods aix database linux server virus

Denied access Notes users are still able to access mails through IBM Notes Traveler
Wed, Aug 27th 2014 5:30a   Kenio Carvalho
When people leaves the company i always put the user on a deny access group, remove the account and delete the mail database. But if you do not delete the account... Once the user added in Deny access group to Deny Traveler access you need to enable "Enforce server access setting" to Yes in the server document under Ports -> Internet Ports -> Web tab. Follow the below steps to enable the 'Enforce server access setting' to Yes in Server document: 1) Open the Domino Administrator c [read] Keywords: domino ibm notes traveler database server
