Why is upgrading the ODS important?
Kenio Carvalho

I search for information about upgrading ODS to a new version to support a Domino migration  and justify the upgrade of the ODS.

The summary is bellow.

On-Disk Structure (ODS)

Every major release of Notes/Domino (e.g., versions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6/7 ,8 and 8.5 ) has included significant architectural changes to the database structure, also known as the On-Disk Structure (ODS). These architectural changes enables the Notes and Domino development team to improve performance and scalability in each release. Upgrading the databases provides a lot of benefits, with very low risk, so this has always been an important early step in any Notes and Domino upgrade plan.

The ODS version for each major release of Notes and Domino is as follows:
  • v2 -- ODS 16/16.3
  • v3 -- ODS 17/17.3
  • v4 -- ODS 20
  • v5 -- ODS 41
  • v6/v7 -- ODS 43
  • v8 -- ODS 48
  • v8.5 -- ODS 51

SRVE0190E on WebSphere V8.0.0.9
Fri, Oct 17th 2014 6:11a   Kenio Carvalho
Last monday a customer reports the error SRVE0190E and 404 errors appearing sometimes for some users. After reading lots of trace the error was caused by the following: The customer has one IBM HTTP Server in front of two cells. One cell is WAS Cluster and another is Portal Cluster. The websphere pluging-cfg.xml is merged and then deployed on the HTTP Server. Reading the trace i discovered that the customer has two applications with the same context root installed. X Window and MAC
Wed, Sep 24th 2014 10:12a   Kenio Carvalho
I am using my MAC book as principal machine (i was a Windows user). Every day i need a ssh connection with servers to do admin tasks. On windows i use Mobaxterm the best tool i used to do things using ssh. My favorite feature is X Window to use graphical interfaces via x11 forward. There is no Mobaxterm for Mac, so i installed XQuartz http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/. To use the X Window start your connection (after setup XQuartz) using ssh -X user@server [read] Keywords: admin mac server

An issue has been identified that affects Notes Traveler calendar entries on some Apple devices that are upgraded to iOS 8.
Fri, Sep 19th 2014 2:37p   Kenio Carvalho
In some cases, after an Apple device is upgraded to iOS 8, some or all of the Calendar entries in the Notes Traveler account no longer appear on the device. It is important to note that although the Calendar entries do not appear on the device, the entries are NOT permanently lost. The missing entries, in fact, still exist in the user's Domino mail file, and they can be resynced to the device via this workaround [read] Keywords: domino ibm notes traveler apple

Using WGET to download software from IBM
Thu, Sep 18th 2014 1:13p   Kenio Carvalho
A few months ago I heard that it was possible to download files from Passport advantage using wget on a linux terminal. Never needed to test this until yesterday when I needed to upload 3 GB of files to a server (home office to datacenter) that had no possibility of using a browser to download from Passport Advantage. What I did was the following: 1 - Log on passport advantage (using my laptop) and looked for the desired software 2 - I changed the download option for https 3 - When [read] Keywords: ibm laptop linux office server
