Is WebDAV secure? Goodreader WebDAV analysis

iPads are common use now a days during business meetings and every day work activities. While being used for work purposes the iPad (or any other tablet device) must be secure. This has become even more important now many users directly access the business environment and share important business knowledge, by use of a WebDAV protocol.

The following question pops up: is WebDAV secure? The answer is: Yes, if you use on premises solutions.

Before Lialis started with developing iPad WebDAV solutions, we investigated which document reader would be the best solution to use. Not only the functionalities were taken in consideration but also the security was a very important decision point. Outcome: Goodreader with a WebDAV connection. Goodreader does support other connection types, but these types are less secure (cloud solutions) or lack of synchronization feature (FTP).

The main advantage of Goodreader WebDAV is that it is part of the html protocol and guarantees encrypted synchronization of information (document, user credentials) over the Internet. Besides this, the Lialis WebDAV solutions are implemented on a Lotus Domino server which is in the companies DMZ. The connection between the server and Goodreader can be enforced with HTTPS. So you don't have to worry that your employees share business critical information by use of their iPad.

More information about this topic can be found on our WebDAV support website.

Not familiar with the iPad WebDAV possiblities for your business? Lialis is the WebDAV solution provider, and supplies free downloads for our WebDAV solutions for one user. Even if you don't have a Lotus Domino environment, we can help you. Feel free to contact Marten Vosmer for more information.

Manage documents in IBM Connections with the IBM Connections app is limited to reading the files, share a file with other communities and delete files. It is not possible to add new files, while this is what you want when you are on the road or working from home, so your community has access to up-to-date information at any time. With the Readdle Documents app (suitable for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch), combined with Lialis WebDAV, you can upload multiple files directly to any location you have [read] Keywords: connections domino ibm lotus notes quickr archiving blogger community database google iphone ipod mac mobile network office server
