Add a new Webserver to all IBM WebSphere Apps/Modules through python script
Tue, Dec 23rd 2014 6:11a   Klaus Bild
If you define your Webserver in WebSphere before you install your applications the apps/modules will not be automatically mapped to this server. Same happens occasionally even if you have installed your apps before you Webserver. I.e. if you want to map your Webserver manually to your IBM Connections installation you have to click hundreds of times inside […] The post Add a new Webserver to all IBM WebSphere Apps/Modules through python script appeared first on kbild's Blog.

The post AdminCamp 2014 – Mein erstes Mal appeared first on kbild's Blog.

I’m waiting at Heathrow Airport for my flight back from ICONUK and I have to say that the event was a big success. Thursday a splendid speakers dinner at  at Wiltons and Friday a very successful event at the IBM Client Centre situated on the south bank of the River Thames. It was the perfect place for such […] The post Thank you ICONUK, Thank you Tim! appeared first on kbild's Blog.

Together with Wannes Rams I will have the honor to speak at ICON UK 14 in London, the annual event where all UK users of IBM software meet. The session title “The lazy administrator, how to make your life easier by using TDI to automate your work” says pretty much everything about what we want to […] The post The lazy administrators will be at ICON UK 14 appeared first on kbild's Blog.

DB2 Installation hangs – MacBook Pro Late 2013/Fusion/Windows
Thu, Jul 10th 2014 7:08a   Klaus Bild
I’m building a new IBM Connections 5 test installation on my new MacBook Pro. During the installation of the pre-requirements unfortunately IBM DB2 ESE 10.1 hung during installation (of course without logging an error message). Never had any issues with DB2 before so I started googling. I found out that there is an issue if you use VMWare Fusion on a late 2013 MacBook Pro and Windows as OS for the virtual image. Solution is easy, just add following two lines to the .vmx file of your im

Back from looooong holiday, it’s time for something new
Wed, Jul 9th 2014 7:19a   Klaus Bild
This year our family had the pleasure to enjoy four weeks holiday. We were two weeks in lovely Tuscany and instead of telling you how great it was, just let me post some pictures: Yes, it was truly wonderful! Right before holiday I decided that after almost 5 years working for Belsoft AG it was time to leave the company and start a new challenge. I’m really grateful for these 5 years, it was a pleasure to work with Sandra and her team and I learnt a lot! 4th of August will be my

Fun with TDI (aka SDI) and AD/Domino/Cnx – Part 3 – Comment&Wiki page update
Thu, May 8th 2014 2:27a   Klaus Bild
After adding the CSV file in part 2 we now want to add a comment to this file to inform the users what was changed. Create a Comment The atom entry document for the comment was already created in the previous steps of the TDI script and is called atom-entry-comment and looks like this. The part in red will be the actual comment:  Folgende Benutzer wurden hinzugefügt oder angepasst: Klaus Bild Now we just have to post it to the correct file. You can find the How-to on the Connections API

Fun with TDI (aka SDI) and AD/Domino/Cnx – Part 2 – Upload a file to Connections
Tue, May 6th 2014 8:54a   Klaus Bild
Files can be directly uploaded to IBM Connections through the API via a HTTP request. This is documented in the IBM Connections 4.5 API Documentation i.e. when we want to update a file inside Connections we find some informations on how to this here.   Unfortunately the documentation has no examples (as Carl Tyler nicely described in “The Domino Designer documentation team screwed us all“) and is far away from being perfect. Starting point for me was to use the SBT API Explorer

Fun with TDI (aka SDI) and AD/Domino/Cnx – Part 1

As you can see I really love abbreviations but for those of you which have no clue what I’m talking about: TDI -> IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator or the new name IBM Security Directory Integrator AD -> Microsoft Active Directory Domino -> IBM Domino Server Cnx -> IBM Connections Everyone knows the scenario, a new employee begins to work at your company but before he can use your internal systems he has to be manually added to thousands of systems. This can be automated/simp

Say hello to FileSync in IBM Connections 4.5 CR4
Tue, Apr 1st 2014 9:03a   Klaus Bild
IBM Connections 4.5 CR4 was released and brought some really nice new functions which can be found here. One think which was added but is not mentioned on this page is the FileSync functionality (have no clue why). FileSync was available on the SmartCloud for months and gives you the possibilty to automatically sync files to your mobile device, see following images to see how it looks like:     If you want to know how to enable this feature in CR4 go to this site on the Connect

Back home and still in full speed mode after two very exciting and successful events. Thank you Theo for giving us the possibility to be part of the Engage (BLUG) event in Breda, it was so much fun and we enjoyed every minute! Wannes Rams together with me did a short version of our IBM Connect session on IBM Connections customizing: Make Your IBM Connections Deployment Your Own: Customize It!  Right after this event we took the “beer shuttle” to Hamburg for the BCCON event orga

My first Python Script for IBM Connections
Thu, Mar 13th 2014 3:22a   Klaus Bild
I will do a session on administration of IBM Connections and how scripts can help you doing this next week at BCCON in Hamburg with my good friend Christoph Stöttner. He is THE man on this topic and I managed to convince him that he needs me as a co-speaker. His only request was that I had to create a brand new python script, so here we go. I created a script (cnxCommunitiesReparenting.py) which helps you to move/reparent Communties (requires Connections 4.5CR3). You can find it in the ibmc

Create a TURN Server Windows Service for IBM Sametime 9
Mon, Mar 3rd 2014 8:58a   Klaus Bild
Two years ago I wrote about how to create a Windows Service for IBM Sametime 8.5.2 Recently I upgraded our internal environment and again placed the TURN server on a Windows box. Unfortunately the tool I used before didn’t work anymore on my new Windows servers, so I had to find a new solution. So here is my new solution: NSSM – the Non-Sucking Service Manager Super easy and works perfect: The post Create a TURN Server Windows Service for IBM Sametime 9 appeared first on kbild'

Business Card function for the IBM Connections Richtext Editor
Thu, Feb 20th 2014 5:56a   Klaus Bild
I already blogged on the topic of customizing the IBM Connections Richtext Editor and we showed an example of a Business Card plugin for the CKEditor which is used by IBM Connections during our IBM Connect Show’n Tell session. I promised to release the plugin on this blog so here we go:   businesscard.zip Download the plugin and add it to your Richtext Editor, look at slide 157 ff in our presentation (Slideshare link) on how to do this. Following image shows you the new plugin and ho

Google Maps Widget for IBM Connections Profiles
Fri, Feb 7th 2014 7:35a   Klaus Bild
We showed an example of a Google Maps Widget in our IBM Connect session in Orlando and we promised to publish the code on our blogs, so here we go. First of all this image shows you how the widget works, the profile values for “Building” and “Office” are the full address which is shown on the Google map: Look at slide 129 in our presentation (Slideshare link) where you have to place the googleMap.xml file and how you can add it to the IBM Connections Profiles. And th
