DB2 Installation hangs – MacBook Pro Late 2013/Fusion/Windows
Thu, Jul 10th 2014 7:08a Klaus Bild I’m building a new IBM Connections 5 test installation on my new MacBook Pro.
During the installation of the pre-requirements unfortunately IBM DB2 ESE 10.1 hung during installation (of course without logging an error message). Never had any issues with DB2 before so I started googling.
I found out that there is an issue if you use VMWare Fusion on a late 2013 MacBook Pro and Windows as OS for the virtual image. Solution is easy, just add following two lines to the .vmx file of your im [read] Keywords: connections
Back from looooong holiday, it’s time for something new
Wed, Jul 9th 2014 7:19a Klaus Bild This year our family had the pleasure to enjoy four weeks holiday. We were two weeks in lovely Tuscany and instead of telling you how great it was, just let me post some pictures:
Yes, it was truly wonderful!
Right before holiday I decided that after almost 5 years working for Belsoft AG it was time to leave the company and start a new challenge. I’m really grateful for these 5 years, it was a pleasure to work with Sandra and her team and I learnt a lot!

One think which was added but is not mentioned on this page is the FileSync functionality (have no clue why).
FileSync was available on the SmartCloud for months and gives you the possibilty to automatically sync files to your mobile device, see following images to see how it looks like:

My first Python Script for IBM Connections
Thu, Mar 13th 2014 3:22a Klaus Bild I will do a session on administration of IBM Connections and how scripts can help you doing this next week at BCCON in Hamburg with my good friend Christoph Stöttner. He is THE man on this topic and I managed to convince him that he needs me as a co-speaker. His only request was that I had to create a brand new python script, so here we go.
I created a script (cnxCommunitiesReparenting.py) which helps you to move/reparent Communties (requires Connections 4.5CR3).

Create a TURN Server Windows Service for IBM Sametime 9
Mon, Mar 3rd 2014 8:58a Klaus Bild Two years ago I wrote about how to create a Windows Service for IBM Sametime 8.5.2
Recently I upgraded our internal environment and again placed the TURN server on a Windows box. Unfortunately the tool I used before didn’t work anymore on my new Windows servers, so I had to find a new solution.
So here is my new solution: NSSM – the Non-Sucking Service Manager
Super easy and works perfect:

managed-settings.xml issue after IBM Sametime 9 upgrade
Fri, Oct 25th 2013 2:17a Klaus Bild I manage all our Sametime client settings through managed-settings.xml and I love the simplicity of it.
But recently I updated our IBM Sametime environment to Version 9 and the managed settings stopped working.
So I enabled the debugging parameters in rcpinstall.properties and looked at the trace:
"org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file."
Mhmh, not very specific, sounds like a prob with the xml but I used the same xml without any problems with version 8.5.1
So I checked to ope [read] Keywords: ibm

Google map link – IBM Connections Profile customization
Wed, Sep 25th 2013 2:22a Klaus Bild Tomorrow I will give a session at the Dominopoint Days in Milano on customizing IBM Connections and there I will show a simple Profile customization example.
In this example I added a home address as link which will open the address on Google maps
How to do this is pretty simple, create a resource bundle for your labels, check out profiles-config.xml and add the attribute to profiles-config.xml and profiles-types.xml.
Now open profileDetails.ftl and here you have to add the magic:

Save the Mice – IBM Connections Scripting
Thu, Sep 12th 2013 5:40a Klaus Bild If you are an IBM Connections administrator you know that doing system configuration in the WAS Integrated Solution Console is a time and scroll intensive job.
Fortunately Christoph Stöttner created a bunch of very useful scripts which will save you a lot of time.

A very handy IBM Sametime Name Change Task
Tue, Aug 27th 2013 9:50a Klaus Bild Totally missed that a very handy name change task was added to the IBM Sametime name conversion utility looooong time ago:
-> Usage is explained in this Community article
You will need this task if you change your community server host name.
Up to now I always used a custom Domino agent but will use this task in future for sure.

Having fun with CMIS object types in IBM Connections
Mon, Aug 26th 2013 7:38a Klaus Bild A part of my session at the Dominopoint Days 2013 in Milano will be on CMIS object types in Media galleries.
You can create custom media gallery object types just by importing your XML documents that define CMIS object types for custom photo or video files -> Creating custom media gallery object types
Creating a “Belsoft Photo” template was pretty easy:
Create your XML document with your CMIS definition (I added 4 additional fields, Location/Date/Creator/Business Unit)

Start Sametime TURN Server as Windows Service
Tue, Mar 27th 2012 7:11a Klaus Bild Since Ver. 8.5.2 Sametime provides video communications across NATed networks or firewall via the TURN server when direct peer-to-peer communications are not possible. Unfortunately this “server” is only a java program which has to be started manually and which will be closed when you log out the server.
Workaround is to create a windows service which will start the TURN server as local system account:
