Activities storetype changed! – Migration from Connections 4 to 4.5
Thu, Apr 25th 2013 8:00a Klaus Bild I just upgraded our Connections environment from 4 to 4.5. Unfortunately it didn’t run as smoothly as expected.
I did a side-by-side migration (no application artifacts export) and copied all content stores to the new server
A really nasty problem was that all activities file uploads could not be accessed after the upgrade
So I checked logs and the DB tables and found out that the storetype of activities uploads changed from filesystem to filestore

IBM Notes 9 & Sametime – preferred Chat window
Thu, Feb 14th 2013 7:09a Klaus Bild I’m using Notes 9 as my primary Sametime client since the public beta came out.
Unfortunately when someone tries to chat with me (and I’m logged into Connections) the browser based chat window opens up and not the embedded Sametime client.
But of course you can change this behavior on your Sametime server,
just add 1246 (Notes9 client type ID) to your VPS_PREFERRED_LOGIN_TYPES parameter in your Sametime.ini:

The new IBM Meetings App for the iPhone/iPad – Demo

The name of the app wasn’t the only thing that was changed, now the iPhone is a supported device and you can join Sametime meetings with your favorite phone.

Social Connections IV – A huge success

Blackberry and IBM Connections: Via field doesn’t conform to RFC2616
Wed, Nov 28th 2012 6:10a Klaus Bild We had some strange issues with BB trying to connect to our Connections environment.
Whenever we used a WLAN on the BB everything just worked fine but without WLAN we
got a nice little error:

We are using a caching proxy and we thought that the issue was related to the proxy settings.

Add admin users to Connections 4 security roles – the easy way

Added user to metrics-report-run role but couldn’t see Metrics link
Fri, Nov 2nd 2012 8:13a Klaus Bild I just added a user to the metrics-report-run role as documented in the Connections Wiki.
I expected to see a link to Metrics if logged in with this user but I didn’t:
I deleted the browser cache, server cache, restarted servers… no success
Funnily enough I could access Metrics through the direct link http://connectionsserver.com/metrics!?
Finally I decided to check security role mappings for all apps and found another metrics-report-run role for the Common app.

Error in Step create-ear-metrics – Connections 4 upgrade
Mon, Oct 22nd 2012 4:01a Klaus Bild Had a hard time last week with a Connections 4 upgrade.
Whenever I tried to install the Connections apps (on a fresh WAS install!) I got an error during metrics ear file creation:
java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: com/ibm/datatools/internal/core/util/EngineeringOptionID.GLOBAL_VARIABLE
Googling brought me to this technote:

Can’t see images on Cognos Dispatcher – Simple Fix

This wasn’t exactly what I expected. Looking at the image URL’s and the source files on the Cognos WAS server revealed the issue.

Error creating Connections 4 DB’s – Oh Sophos! How do I love thee..
Fri, Sep 14th 2012 9:10a Klaus Bild Just tried to create the Cognos BI DB’s on my Connections 4 DB server, I ended up getting a error:
No authorized routine named “COLLATIONNAME” of type “FUNCTION” having compatible arguments was found. SQLSTATE=42884
Quick googling helped me to remind myself to ALWAYS disable Sophos on the server, even if I only want to create some DB’s:

TDI Lotus Domino Users Connector & ID Vault: A rather bad relationship!
Tue, Jul 24th 2012 6:17a Klaus Bild Recently I created a neat TDI script which syncs users from Active Directory to my Domino directory.
The cool stuff is that it also automatically creates the user ID’s and mailboxes (with different language templates) using different certifier ID’s (depending on AD fields) and adds them to Domino groups. The script worked just perfect on my test system but failed miserable on my production system:

Click to Call directly from IBM Connections
Mon, Jun 25th 2012 8:14a Klaus Bild Recently we changed our telephony infrastructure to a cloud-based voip offering using softphones on our PC/Mac clients.
IBM Connections is our internal address book and my goal was to integrate a click to call functionality into Connections so that whenever I see a phone number in Connections (profiles, business card) I just can click to dial.
The solution for this was to add a small javascript and some html to the profile configuration which creates a sip url for the phone numbers:

Add admin users to Connections security roles – the easy way

Start Sametime TURN Server as Windows Service
Tue, Mar 27th 2012 7:11a Klaus Bild Since Ver. 8.5.2 Sametime provides video communications across NATed networks or firewall via the TURN server when direct peer-to-peer communications are not possible. Unfortunately this “server” is only a java program which has to be started manually and which will be closed when you log out the server.
Workaround is to create a windows service which will start the TURN server as local system account:

How to reanimate your Sametime environment (after failed upgrade)

Don’t ask me why but the upgrade of the SSC failed and my system was left in an “unstable state”

Native iPhone App für IBM Sametime 8.5.2 erschienen – IFR1 released

Hauptziel dieses Releases war es, neben Produkt Bugfixing weitere Funktion für Sametime zu implementieren, ohne das man auf einen neuen Punktrelease warten muss. Using SSL in Sametime 8.5.x for LDAP connection Part 1

Documentation (Infocenter, Sametime Wiki) is not very clear on this topic and has some conflicting infos. These are the steps which worked for me.

Nur leider hat diese Vorschaufunktion vom Beginn weg nicht funktioniert und wir haben auf eine Nutzung der Galleries somit ersteinmal verzichtet.

Installation IBM Sametime Advanced 8.5.2
Fri, Jul 1st 2011 5:28a Klaus Bild IBM Sametime Advanced gibt es schon seit dem Jahre 2008 und ergänzt Sametime Standard mit Echtzeit Community und Social Networking Funktionalitäten (Persitent Chat Rooms, Broadcast Tools). Leider war die Installation aller Versionen vor 8.5.2 sehr komplex und kompliziert, unter anderem mussten IBM WebSphere MQ und der WebSphere Event Broker installiert werden. Diese Komplexität führte dazu, dass das Produkt nie Verbreitung und Akzeptanz fand.

IBM Lotus Connections 3 auf dem iPhone
Thu, Mar 17th 2011 3:58a Klaus Bild IBM Lotus Connections hat mit der Version 3 sehr viele Verbesserungen im Bereich Zugriff über mobile Geräte gebracht. Man kann mittlerweile direkt per iPhone (oder mit fast jeglichem mobilen Gerät) mit allen Komponenten arbeiten und somit wirklich von überall auf die nötigen Daten zugreifen resp. mit seinem Netzwerk interagieren.
