So here we are a year later and nothing has really changed with this site. It's slowly getting less and less posts, but once again, they are commented on more than ever. I do have a new idea for the site, well, maybe its the original idea for the site. Bring it back to a help site for the Lotus Notes end-user. We recently held our first meeting for the Western PA LUG and the topic of an end-user session was discussed. It got me thinking about the site and what it was supposed to be and wha [read] Keywords: ibm lotus notes

Mon, Apr 9th 2012 6:11a   Denny Russell
A few weeks back I blogged about an Office 365 issue where calendar invitations were not coming through as invites but rather as text. With some guidance from a Response to that article, we were able to solve the issue. Below are the details of how to fix this issue. The Scenario The environment we are in is a co-existence of Office365 users and on-premise Lotus Notes users. URL link to a Lotus Notes document not resolving correctly on the iPhone
Tue, Mar 27th 2012 1:11p   Denny Russell
I've run into an odd issue with the iPhone and a link left in an email. Let me set up the scenario a bit. A user has an email that has been 'stubbed' by an archiving process. The body of the message is replaced with a footprint of text so the user can easily get to the archived document. In a Notes client, a doclink is present and the user can click and open the message. For web/phone, there is a full url path to the archived message as seen below... If a user clicks this UR [read] Keywords: inotes lotus notes notes client archiving database email iphone

Some Microsoft 365 Invitations arrive in Lotus Notes as text not invitations
Tue, Mar 20th 2012 1:12p   Denny Russell
We've run into an odd issue and I'm looking for help out solving it. We have users running Lotus Notes 8.5.3 and when an invite comes into their inbox from Office 365, one of 2 things happens. 1. It works and looks like this... OR 2. It comes through as a Memo and text only... Both Mail files inherit from the same 8.5.3 Mail Template Both Mail files have 'Keep in senders' format' for the incoming mail preferences in the Person document in the Domino Directory. DAOS: What happens when a document is moved from one file to another
Fri, Mar 9th 2012 8:10a   Denny Russell
After many calls from customers, I've been doing some research to see what happens when documents are moved from one .nsf that has DAOS enabled to another .nsf. While not surprising to me, the results seemed unexpected to some customers so I decided to write about it. Here is what I found out. My test went like this. Step 1. Send some attachments in emails and verifying that my DAOS folder is growing both at the OS level as well as issuing a Tell DAOSmgr dbsummary command at the console. Wed, Jan 4th 2012 12:10p   Denny Russell
When building out my new laptop, I installed Lotus Notes 8.5.3. As I was setting all my preferences, I stumbled across a section titled 'Choose how names are added to Recent Contacts' and it has a much improved set of features. While it offers a lot of choices, I still don't see exactly the one I want. Here is what I am looking for; A combination of 'Only sender's name from emails I receive' and 'Only names from emails I send'. Allow agents executed using server command "tell amgr run" to be seen...
Thu, Jun 23rd 2011 6:46a   Denny Russell
In working with our customers, many have requested the ability to see what an agent is doing when they use the 'Run Now' option. The 'Run Now' option in our products simply uses the 'Tell AMGR RUN' command at the console to start an agent. Unlike a scheduled LotusScript agent, once you issue this command, you have no control. This is nothing new, as it's been on IdeaJam for a while now. Let me show you what I mean. We recently encountered this error when trying to upgrade a Lotus Notes client. The upgrade you are attempting is not supported. My Admin did a little research and found this technote on IBM's site. ’Save as .eml’ will now be an option in Lotus Notes & Domino 8.5.2 fixpack 2
Tue, Mar 22nd 2011 1:15p   Denny Russell
stumbled across Schmhen's Blog today and his article on 8.5.2 fixpack 2. One item really stood out as a fix that was wanted by many customers. SPR# DCHR89GT3Q – Added a policy option to enable administrators to enable or restrict the ability for Notes client users to choose “Save as eml” under “File..Save” options from within an email. Another Lotusphere has come and gone and it's different on so many levels. After an 'interesting' OGS, my hopes weren't as high as I had originally thought they would be, but that all changed as the week went by. It wasn't what was said by any speaker or in any Keynote, but rather the actions of the people who attended. Despite the lack of any big announcements, people had a different attitude this year. Because of all the other things I've had going on recently, I haven't been able to upgrade to 8.5.2 or the Traveler release that supports Android. Last night was finally my night. 3 servers were on tap for the upgrade. That included upgrading from 8.5.1 to 8.5.2 with a fixpack. 1 server would have Traveler upgraded as well and appropriate fixpacks. All 3 servers were done in no time. Using Twitter and the Domino Blog saved me time

A week or so ago, I eluded to the fact I'd be reviewing this book. When I first heard it was coming out, I was excited to read it. Honestly, it didn't disappoint. The book is well written and Karen Hooper does a wonderful job of showing the end-user what they can be doing with Lotus Notes. A much needed fix to the Recent Contacts in 8.5.2
Wed, Aug 25th 2010 10:58a   Denny Russell
I always thought the 'recent contacts' was a great idea when it was added to a few releases ago. However, I always found adding your CC & BCC to this list was bogus and just caused a lot of clutter. 8.5.2 appears to give me an option to handle this a little better.
