If Operating Systems Ran the Airlines
Mon, Nov 10th 2008 7:52p   Mdm Adph
[This is an old one, but a good one, and one that I didn't hear before today. It had me laughing quite a few times.] UNIX Airways Everyone brings one piece of the plane along when they come to the airport. They all go out on the runway and put the plane together piece by piece, arguing non-stop about what kind of plane they are supposed to be building. Air DOS Everybody pushes the airplane until it glides, then they jump on and let the plane coast until it hits the ground again. Then they [read] Keywords: agent linux mac

McCain campaign protests YouTube's DMCA policy | Politics and Law - CNET News "In a letter (PDF) sent to YouTube CEO Chad Hurley and company attorneys on Monday, the campaign charges that 'our advertisements or Web videos have been the subject of DMCA takedown notices regarding uses that are clearly privileged under the fair use doctrine.' Adobe Flash Player 10 Released
Wed, Oct 15th 2008 8:51p   Mdm Adph
Adobe Flash Player Download Center - Linux Well, Flash 10 finally came out today, for all systems, simultaneously (Linux included). Very, very neat. And, for once, it's actually easier to install this now if you're using Firefox on Linux than if you're using Firefox on Windows... While the install is easy in Internet Explorer on Windows (in-browser ActiveX installation), on Firefox on Windows you have to download a file, close down your browser, and run the file. Firefox on Linux? (If you us [read] Keywords: firefox linux ubuntu

Lotus Symphony on Ubuntu 8.10
Wed, Oct 15th 2008 8:51p   Mdm Adph
I was almost looking forward to making a big entry about this, full of hacks, neat little tricks, and other goodies that I'd discovered. I'd go in depth about what console commands I'd used to install Lotus Symphony on Ubuntu, what additional packages I'd have to install, what amazing little tweaks would be necessary to get it to work. However, they'll be none of that today. IBM has released Lotus Symphony as a .deb file, and like many developers and companies are figuring out, that's the [read] Keywords: ibm lotus symphony applications development eclipse enterprise linux office openoffice red hat security ubuntu

The 65 mpg Ford the U.S. Can't Have I would love to buy this car if they sold it in the US. Domino Server/ExtJS "Timeout" Script
Mon, Sep 15th 2008 8:54p   Mdm Adph
Just reposting a bit of code I posted over on the ExtJS forums. Here's a script that works all by itself -- just place it into your overrides file for your ExtJS/Domino app. Whenever your user's connection to the server has timed-out (and your app tries to fire an Ajax request), the timed-out Ajax request will be cached, the user will be prompted to log back in, and the previous Ajax request will be fired again, with no interruption in code execution. Pretty neat, eh? /* DOMINO Server Ex [read] Keywords: domino ajax development password server

In response to the recent Google HTTPS flaw discovery (don't worry, it's nothing major -- just a technical point), I've now decided to start adding this flag to all of my cookies, as well. There's an easy way to do it with Ext, too, and I did this right away with my cookie-settings scripts in Domino. A Bugfix for Several Ext Datefield and Timefield Problems

Been trying to use a custom datetime format (e.g., "g:i:s A", etc.) with your xtype "datefield" and "timefield" components, but not having any luck? Turns out there were some bugs with the datetime scripts in the final release of Ext 2.1. Wondering just where the hell the "enableKeyEvents" parameter is supposed to go? Well, I was too. Coolite Toolkit for ASP.NET Web ControlsJust found this recently -- apparently it's a rather well-made plug-in for Visual Studio that'll help integrate ExtJS into your ASP web applications.
