Lotus Notes and Domino Programming – Lesson 4 the Folder
Mon, Sep 7th 2009 9:56p   Michael Kinder
This should be a quick follow up of my last posting about the VIEW object. As I mentioned, the FOLDER is very much like a VIEW in the Lotus Notes/Domino environment, with one vital difference. The VIEW object gets its contents from a formula, so users don’t directly impact the contents of a VIEW, instead, they impact it in indirect ways such as creating a new document with a FORM that is part of the VIEW selection formula, or making a change to a document that causes it to appear in a VIEW [read] Keywords: document domino formula lotus notes template application applications database development outlook planetlotus planetlotus.org server

Lotus Notes and Domino Programming – Lesson 3 the View
Fri, Sep 4th 2009 10:58a   Michael Kinder
Hi All, sorry this took so long but had visitors and was unable to submit. So we are going to focus on the VIEW object with this installment, hopefully the title didn’t confuse you with the TV Show or the Technical Magazine. The VIEW object is like the FORM object in that it also is often misunderstood. One common issue is the difference between a FOLDER and a VIEW. We will focus on the FOLDER object in another article, but since both are accessed the same way programmatically, it is worth [read] Keywords: dblookup document domino formula lotus lotusscript notes applications bleedyellow bleedyellow.com database development planetlotus planetlotus.org xml

Lotus Notes and Domino Programming – Lesson 2 the Form
Tue, Aug 25th 2009 5:33p   Michael Kinder
The Form design object is likely one of the most used, and I believe most misunderstood objects. That’s my opinion though, nothing more. The biggest confusion I see is that people have difficulty differentiating between a DOCUMENT and a FORM. There is a big difference. A Form does NOT contain any data whatsoever, nor is it solely in control of what data goes into a Document developed using the Form. A Document ONLY contains data and really has no User Interface that is apart of it. Lotus Notes and Domino Programming – Lesson 1 the Database
Tue, Aug 25th 2009 5:26p   Michael Kinder
I went back and forth about what I would first write about, and decided that programming seems to be the area that most needs attention. That being the case, my first few blog entries will be related to development. With this first entry, I think an explanation of the overall programming items is ideal. I will discuss the objects available, what version they became available in (if I know), and what they are used for (whether by design or creative use). Database That’s right, the database [read] Keywords: document domino dxl lotus notes template application database development email planetlotus planetlotus.org properties xml

What is Lotus Notes and Domino? Collaboration Toolbox?
Tue, Aug 25th 2009 5:24p   Michael Kinder
I hear it all the time, there have been blogs and lengthy discussions about it. Just defining exactly what Lotus Notes/Domino is can be difficult and is part of the reason I think some organizations and technical professionals have difficulty adopting it. It doesn’t have to be difficult. I am going to try to explain it here, from my perspective anyway, but remember I already said it is difficult to do. First – it is NOT an email system, in the sense that, that is all it does. How will they hear without someone to teach?
Tue, Aug 25th 2009 5:20p   Michael Kinder
It is rare in life to get to do something you truly want to do. After 14+ years as a Lotus Notes/Domino professional, I continue to hear people say they wish there was a good place to go to learn the basics of Lotus Notes/Domino. I still hear people make uninformed derogatory remarks about the Lotus Notes/Domino environment. For these two main reasons, I hope this blog will help stop both, by informing the uniformed – and assisting anyone who has decided to make a career in the Lotus Notes [read] Keywords: admin domino lotus notes community development planetlotus planetlotus.org
