Our IBM Connect 2013 Slides and Sample Db
Mon, Feb 11th 2013 12:10p   Mike McGarel
On his blog, Paul Withers published a zip file containing updated presentation slides and sample database for our session, "It’s Not Herculean: 12 Tasks Made Easier with IBM Domino XPages" (BP206). Since I'm a big fan of single sourcing, I'll just link to the blog post. If you have any questions about it, feel free to contact me at mcgarelgramming at gmail.com. My IBM Connect SpeedGeeking Session
Mon, Feb 4th 2013 11:10p   Mike McGarel
Last week, at IBM Connect, I participated in one of my favorite annual sessions, SpeedGeeking, where a group of speakers simultaneously present to a small audience that moves from speaker to speaker. I showed one way to create a faceted search page in XPages, based on a project I posted on OpenNTF. As promised (was it really a week ago already?), I posted the presentation deck on Slideshare. I hope you find it useful. [read] Keywords: ibm xpages openntf

It's Easier With XPages
Tue, Jan 22nd 2013 9:11a   Mike McGarel
Next week, at IBM Connect 3013, Paul Withers and I will demonstrate several ways that coding in XPages is more efficient than coding in classical Domino techniques. We'll have a little history, a little mythology, code you can re-use and a lot of fun! Below is our session information from the online agenda: BP206 : It's Not Herculean: Twelve Tasks Made Easier With IBM Lotus Domino XPages Description: If you, as a developer, are asking “"How can I get my job done quicker with XP [read] Keywords: domino ibm lotus notes xpages

MWLUG 2012 Workshop - Customizing OneUI
Mon, Aug 20th 2012 5:12p   Mike McGarel
At MWLUG 2012, Roy Rumaner and I presented a short hands-on workshop on customizing OneUI within an XPages application. Here is is a zip file with the presentation, workshop instructions and accompanying text files. I also posted the presentation on Slideshare. Many attendees in the past have told me they find simple, monitored workshops useful and I hope IBM thinks about providing them at Lotusphere. MWLUG 2012: People First, Technologists Second
Mon, Aug 20th 2012 9:08a   Mike McGarel
Another great Midwest Lotus User Group conference, MWLUG 2012, ended last week. Personally, I learned a lot from the speakers who were generous enough to share their knowledge. Likewise, I hope Roy Rumaner and I were able to help those who attended our "Customizing OneUI" workshop with their XPages journey (slides will be published soon). For me, though the most valuable part of LUGs and larger conferences like Lotusphere is connecting with people. At every LUG, it is wonderful to see old fr [read] Keywords: domino ibm lotus lotusphere notes xpages bleedyellow bleedyellow.com

My LS12 SpeedGeeking Session
Wed, Jan 25th 2012 11:12a   Mike McGarel
The slides from my SpeedGeeking Session, "Two CCs of Layout -- Stat" has been posted on here on Slideshare. In it, I describe the benefits of using the basic XPages technique of an outer custom control with common layout elements containing an inner custom control with specific page content. Some LS12 Thanks
Wed, Jan 25th 2012 10:09a   Mike McGarel
I'll make this quick (much like Lotusphere 2012, which ended much too soon) . . . Thanks to all who were involved in the organizing such a great conference. Thanks to the track managers for bringing in the high number of excellent speakers. Thanks to the speakers themselves for sharing their knowledge with us. Thanks to those responsible for the OGS for listening and responding to last year’s comments. Thanks to the sky gods for keeping the rain away from the Wednesday Ni [read] Keywords: lotusphere blogger

Fri, Oct 14th 2011 1:09p   Mike McGarel
Quick Announcement 1: The updated version of the MWLUG 2011 XPages workshop, which concentrated on resurfacing data from a Notes client-based application to an XPages application, is now available on the MWLUG Presentations page. Roy Rumaner and I re-focused and re-tuned it -- we hope you like the result. The zip file has the instructions, a starting database, and a completed version. Quick Announcement 2: The next meeting of GRANITE, the Chicago-baseed IBM/Lotus user group, is Monday, Oc [read] Keywords: ibm lotus notes notes client xpages application database
