Gadget: Milk Frother
Mon, Jan 30th 2012 2:23p   Neil Gower
Just a quick post, as you may know I have a small (read massive) addition to coffee. I was in Comet the other day and picked up a milk frother as it was only 14 GBP.   As long as you don't over fill it you will get quite hot and very frothy milk, well worth 14 GBP. [read] Keywords: gadget

Audit Manager 3.0.0 - Looking for Testers
Fri, Dec 30th 2011 5:23a   Neil Gower
Well I finally finished the new version of Audit Manager. Its been a massive overhaul of the application, and I hope it makes it easier to use, it provides a significant amount of new functionality, especially around deployment and maintenance. Due to a change in the relationship between Audits and Logs you cannot upgrade from version 2.x.x to version 3.0.0, I will be providing a migration tool at a later date, once I am sure that version 3.0.0 is stable. And that's where you come in... I would [read] Keywords: application email openntf

Christmas Tech - Part 1 - WDTV Live
Thu, Dec 29th 2011 6:42a   Neil Gower
As readers of my blog may know, I always buy myself some Tech at Christmas. This year instead of a large item I bought a few smaller bits of tech, and over the next few weeks I will be covering all of them. First up is the WDTV Live. The WDTV Live is a media streaming device, so it allows me to access all the TV shows and films that I have saved on my NAS, and play them on my TV. I already have a PS3 which I was using for media streaming, but I was getting increasingly frustrated with its inabi [read] Keywords: apple interface network networking wireless

Sat, Nov 5th 2011 5:43p   Neil Gower
I noticed today that my Audit Manager project has just had its 3000 download. I would be really interested in hearing from people who use it, what they use if for, and what problems they have solved. If you would like to email me and tell me what you are using Audit Manager for please drop me a line on neilgower at gmail.com [read] Keywords: email

Audit Manager New Version: Jumping Through Hoops!
Thu, Oct 20th 2011 8:23a   Neil Gower
I am planning to release a new version of Audit Manager, it does not have any new features (there are more features in the pipeline), but a friend of mine Geoff Anderson has re-compiled the 32 bit .dll to support 64bit Windows. I packaged the code up and tried to upload it to OpenNTF, however since I last uploaded code to OpenNTF a number of changes have been made, and there is more rigour around IP rights etc, so I cannot upload the software at the moment. Having read all the guidance notes on [read] Keywords: notes applications openntf

OpenNTF X-Pages or Traditional Domino Projects
Mon, Jul 25th 2011 6:02a   Neil Gower
Hi, I am the project chef on a couple of projects on OpenNTF, now unfortunately, I do not have as much time as I would like to maintain the applications I have posted on the site. I am planning a new release of Audit Manager, I am just waiting on a friend of mine who is working on supporting Domino 64 bit, but I have a specific question to ask around OpenTV. You may be aware that this is a "traditional" i.e. non X-Pages based Domino application to host videos on your intranet, I was thinking l [read] Keywords: agent domino application applications openntf

Cool Tablet or Laptop Stand
Wed, Jul 13th 2011 5:02p   Neil Gower
It was my birthday today, and its been quite eventful, but more about that in another blog. I did want to share one really cool present that my partner gave me (actually she gave me lots of cool presents). I was thinking of buying the docking station for my Advent Vega tablet, but they have been out of stock, and are now discontinued. For my birthday today I got a PadPod, its a portable fold up stand that you can use for your Tablet or Laptop, instead of trying to describe it, here is a video. [read] Keywords: laptop

Guest Blogger: Ben Horley - Nagios for Domino plugin
Wed, Jul 6th 2011 1:05p   Neil Gower
Hello, I'm Ben Horley, a Domino Administrator working with Neil. He's been kind enough to let me guest-post here to talk about check_domino, my Nagios for Domino plugin. Nagios is a popular host and service monitoring application running on Linux and other UNIX variants. It uses a plugin architecture, the bundled or 3rd party plugins interrogate servers and applications then compare the results against configured alerting thresholds. If you've never used Nagios I would highly recommend it, it [read] Keywords: agent domino lotus notes application applications blogger database development email exchange exchange java linux

Rain Stops Play!
Mon, Jun 13th 2011 4:28p   Neil Gower
I finally got around to purchasing a new helicopter, I have been meaning to buy a new bird since August last year.   So I finally take the plunge and get an Eflite MCPX helicopter, my first collective pitch bird, and since it arrived its either been raining, or there has been strong wind! So I am praying for good weather this weekend, or this will turn out to be a very expensive box! [read] Keywords:

Vegacomb 1.5.2
Tue, Jun 7th 2011 10:42a   Neil Gower
I recently purchased an Advent Vega tablet, I could not justify the cost of an iPad2, so went with an Android 2.2 (Froyo) tablet at 199 GBP. Its a pretty neat piece of hardware, fairly good screen (tight viewing angles, but good for privacy), HDMI connector, proper USB, and MicroSD card slot . Its also got a fast processor in the form of the Tegra dual core 1GHZ, and this is what makes it really interesting.... it meets the specs of Honeycomb. Out of the box its not well setup, it comes with a c [read] Keywords: community email google

Audit Manager - Testers Required
Sat, Jan 1st 2011 1:06p   Neil Gower
Over the New Year period I have finally had some time to update and add new features to my Audit Manager project. Its been a while since I last issued a new version (around 2008), as from a features point of view I thought it pretty much complete, however over the last few months a number of people have contacted me and asked for a number of new features, especially improved ability to manage the log databases. I have also taken the opportunity to fix a couple of bugs that have been reported. I [read] Keywords: application openntf

Gadget Surprise
Thu, Dec 30th 2010 7:01a   Neil Gower
Well I have not bought my gadget yet, however I did receive a really cool gadget as a Christmas present... Its a mini digital video camera, you can get an idea of how small this is from the MicroSD slot in the side. Now I know what you are thinking, what could someone possibly use a video camera that small for.... well dont panic its for my helicopters. This camera is ideal to enable some of my larger helicopters to be used as video platforms, so when the weather improves I w [read] Keywords: gadget

Flying at the Weekend
Mon, Aug 30th 2010 5:13p   Neil Gower
In the UK its been a bank holiday weekend, so three days off. I think all weekend should be three days for a number of reasons... You get fully rested and refreshed, during a normal weekend you start to wind down on Saturday, are chilled Sunday morning, and wind up on Sunday afternoon. This gives you a half day sweet spot. During a bank holiday you get a day and a half sweet spot As you are fully rested you get just as much work done, if not more in the four day working week In the UK because [read] Keywords: application

I am rapidly heading towards 40, not sure how that happened, I was 25 the last time I looked. Still when you have a birthday you get presents, and again this year I got some crackers.   Kodak Play Sport Hi Def Video Camera   Last year I got the Kodak ZX-1 HD video camera, and it was a great little machine, this year I got the new version, its now 1080p, has electronic stabilisation (much needed), but most fun off al it is water proof to 3 meters, should be great when swimming in the se [read] Keywords:

Esky Honey Bee V2
Wed, May 5th 2010 4:19p   Neil Gower
Received a new helicopter today, a Honey Bee V2. This is fixed pitch helicopter, so much harder to fly than the coaxials that I currently have, I am hoping the E-flite MSR micro heli I have been flying for the last month or so will have prepared me for this machine. Still I am sure I am going to crash a lot, and probably injure myself lol. Usefully it takes the same lipo battery as my Esky Big Lama, so I will have batteries worth of flying before recharging... I will post some video when [read] Keywords:

Defect Density Tools
Thu, Apr 1st 2010 5:05a   Neil Gower
Are there tools for the Domino platform that can identify how many lines of code have changed between different versions of a Notes database. I would like to start looking at defect density (no of defects against number of lines of code changed). I know that Team Studio has delta, but can that tool identify the number of lines of code (Lotuscript, Formula, Javascript, Jave etc) that has changed and give a simple report on the number of changes. Does anyone know of a tool that would help me, rath [read] Keywords: domino notes database javascript

Another Helicopter
Wed, Mar 17th 2010 9:46a   Neil Gower
Ohh my god I am totally addicted to buying and flying (badly) helicopters. The latest addition to my fleet is the E-Flite Blade MSR. I had not planned to get another heli, but it was on special offer at half price for the bind and fly version. So I had to didn't I !!! Its a great little heli, very similar to the Solo Pro, but it has better flight characteristics, is faster (more crashes) and luckily is better built (crossing fingers). I am going to have lots of fun with this one, and its sma [read] Keywords:
