An Excellent Season
Thu, Mar 11th 2010 11:02a   Phil Randolph
Just wanted to pop in quick to say how proud I am of my son's hockey team's accomplishments this year. For this being their first year at the Squirt level, and all of them being birth-year 2000 players except for our goalie, I think they did a remarkable job playing in the A2 Squirt Division and compiling a record of 10 wins, 3 losses and 3 ties. They were able to beat the previously 'undefeated in the division' team which ended up going 15-1 in the division in a 2-1 decision. They ended up [read] Keywords: lotusphere

A Treasure Trove of info in The XCast, Episode 2
Wed, Mar 3rd 2010 8:33a   Phil Randolph
After way too long a time, I finally got around to listening to Episode 2 of the XCast Podcast by Tim Clark and Stephan Wissel while on the way to work on the bus this morning. This episode was a veritable treasure trove of content to get new XPages developers started. The guys linked to many different resources (some of which I've already captured in my XPages Resources post) in the show notes for the episode, and I fully intend to follow each and every link to delve further into the wisdom [read] Keywords: notes xpages development podcast

Wed, Feb 10th 2010 10:19p   Phil Randolph
After posting my assembled list of XPages resources on Tuesday, I got quite a response, both from a readership standpoint (broke my highest ever PL click-through count by over 100, and at one point was on the What's Hot list), and from a comment standpoint. Several of you have given me some more XPages Development resource ideas, so I'll post them here, but will also go back and update my original post. Past 100, and still going...
Wed, Feb 10th 2010 9:00p   Phil Randolph
Just wrapping up my 100 push-ups workout for the evening here in my hotel room in Dallas, and I remembered that I hadn't posted on my blog (for those of you that might not follow me on twitter) that I'd passed a personal milestone. I've now gone over 100 days in a row doing 100 push-ups per day. Last time I mentioned it here, I'd just finished a month of the streak, but now it's gone over 3 months! I'm at 104 days now (after the last set of 30 I'll do in a second when I finish this post). [read] Keywords: twitter

XPages Resources - help me build on this list!
Tue, Feb 9th 2010 10:50a   Phil Randolph
At long last, I've been assigned a new project requiring me to create a XPages powered application! Woohoo! So, now that I be justified in digging wholeheartedly into the meat that is XPages development, I thought I'd compile a list of resources that I and many others in the same boat as me can reference going forward through our learning process. The streak is still going...
Mon, Nov 30th 2009 9:23a   Phil Randolph
Yesterday's push-ups workout put the streak at 31 days and therefore 3,100 pushups since starting on October 30th. The total since start over a year ago is closing on 23,000! This has been working SOOO much better for me than those long grueling 250+ push-up, 9 set workouts that would stretch up to 40-45 minutes. I can usually kick the 100 out in 10 or 15 minutes, depending on how distracted I get by other stuff or if I am multi-tasking in between the sets. Changing things up a bit, for the better
Fri, Oct 30th 2009 12:59p   Phil Randolph
Heading upstairs to finally get back to a push-ups workout after once again putting it off for over a week, I got to thinking... Why do I talk myself into not doing these workouts anymore? Does it take too long? Does it hurt too much? Am I just tired of doing them at this point since I've been doing them for over a year? The answer really is probably little bits of each of these things: I tell myself I won't have enough time to fit it in either at home or in the office. Good to see the Wings finish out a game through the ENTIRE 3rd period instead of collapsing as they did in their two games "across the pond" against the Blues. Reversed my most recent route, to change it up a little, then extended it by going farther down a street than normal and back up another one to re-attach to my regular route. 100 Pushups - Week 6 Column 3 Day 3 Report
Tue, Aug 4th 2009 11:13a   Phil Randolph
BRUTAL! That's about all I can say about this final workout of Week 6 Column 3. Only got to 35 before running out of steam on the 9th and final set, after the 214 pushups leading up to it. Was surprised that I was able to get the other 25 done after the quick breather. 26/26/33/33/26/26/22/22/60 (35, break30sec, 25) Have proven that I can get through this workout though, so that's something, and stuff to build on, as I'm sure I'll spend many many weeks here before going for the full 100, if [read] Keywords:

Couch to 5K - Week 6 Workout 3
Sun, Aug 2nd 2009 10:08p   Phil Randolph
Wow, that run would have been much more comfortable if I had waited until the sun was going down as it was likely nearly 80, but at least I got through it. Zach wanted to accompany me on my run, though he'd be on his bike. I showed him the route before we started, and he thought it looked pretty long. I also told him I'd be walking for 5 minutes, then running for a full 25. He still seemed determined. About 22 minutes in, he decided to head straight home from a corner near our house, when [read] Keywords:

These runs keep getting later and later, but glad I got it in tonight as I'm not sure what kind of time I'll be able to carve out over the weekend, or what kind of terrain I may need to work with while we are camping. This run consisted of a 5 minute warm-up walk, followed by two 10 minute runs with a 3 minute walk break in between. Was able to cover over 2.5 miles in that time. Here's a link to my RunningAHEAD log and this day's specific workout. You can also view the map of where I've been [read] Keywords:

Alright, when I was looking out the windows earlier today it seemed kind of hazy and overcast, so wouldn't you know it, when I get around to heading out for my run it's over 80, nary a cloud in the sky and humid as heck! Argh!!! Oh well, heat endurance practice I guess... Did my 29 minutes of 5w/5r/3w/8r/3w/5r going approx 2.3 miles. 100 Pushups - Week 6 Column 3 Day 1 Report
Mon, Jul 27th 2009 11:32a   Phil Randolph
It appears that my decision to move advance on to the final column of "Week 6" in the 100 Pushups workout routine was a sound one. The numbers for the first day are close to the same as Week 2 of the previous column, so it wasn't a huge difference. I was able to push all the way through the last set again - 55 after the 165 in the 8 sets before it for a total of 220. Couch to 5K - Week 5 Workout 3
Sat, Jul 25th 2009 9:48p   Phil Randolph
This was the first one of these workouts where I was fairly sure I WOULDN'T be able to run all the way through the time required. What do you know? I did make it! Tonight's run was "simply" a 5 minute warm-up walk followed by 20 full minutes running - without stopping for any walk-breaks. I covered 2.31 miles in that 25 minutes. Looks like next week starts with a workout where there are at least a couple of walking breaks between the runs, but the build-up of run time continues. [read] Keywords:

100 Pushups - Week 6 Column 2 Day 3 (Take 10) Report

After doing this same push-ups workout for 10 (more or less) weeks, I feel it's time to move on to the 3rd column of "Week 6" of the 100 Pushups Challenge. That would be the final step before taking the "Final Test" to see if I can indeed do 100 push-ups at one time. BTW - looked at the numbers accumulating in my log and see that I've gone past 16K push-ups across 101 workouts, and that's over the last 10 months. So this may be the last time for this set of numbers - 22/22/30/30/25/25/18/18/5 [read] Keywords:

Waited until I got home tonight to do my Couch to 5K running workout. It had been raining most of the day, but the sidewalks were dry enough to not cause any problems. The nice thing about the rain earlier was that the temp was down quite a bit and there was still a breeze. Was able to cover 2.32 miles in 26 minutes. This was through a 5 minute warm-up walk, 8 minute run, another 5 minute walk and finishing with a 8 minute run that conveniently put me back in my driveway. While running, I [read] Keywords:

Decided to throw the last 3 workouts, between pushups and Couch To 5K runs together into one post. Was able to carve out a little time on Saturday to complete Week 4 of C25K with a run in the Oak Openings Metroparks near Whitehouse, Ohio. It was a really nice, fully shaded run through the woods for a good 26 minutes, and approximately 2 miles.
