As Rafiki would say… IT IS TIME! MWLUG 2015 Abstract Submission is NOW OPEN!
Fri, Apr 10th 2015 12:31p   Ray Bilyk
The Master of MWLUG, Richard Moy, begins on his post… I am please to announce that session abstract submission is now opened for MWLUG 2015.  Abstract submission will close on May 22, 2015 so get your abstracts in.  To submit your abstract go to: http://mwlug.com/mwlug/mwlug2015.nsf/Abstract.xsp I love the theme this year, “Transforming Collaboration Through Innovation”, as it speaks to what a lot of us are doing. We either change what we do WITH what we have (or can get) or

Anyone want to do a ‘group buy’ on the Pebble Time with me?
Mon, Mar 2nd 2015 11:40a   Ray Bilyk
Introducing the Pebble Time: I simply LOVE THIS WATCH and want one in the worst way… The problem? I’m too cheap to pay more than the lowest price… Solution? I’m asking anyone that wants to get the Pebble Time when it gets released for $169 instead of $179 (for one watch if there are any left at that price) to let me know in the comments. (It would be nice to get one from Pebble themselves for review, but I’m not nearly important enough to have that happen…

To those attending IBM ConnectED, a humble request…

I’m president of a local homebrew (beer) club, and we are looking for 4-6 bottles of Samuel Smith’s Taddy Porter direct from its homeland… If anyone could bring some over, we could trade for 4-6 bottles (or a growler) of fine craft beer from Michigan (home of Bell’s and Founders Breweries among others). In fact, if you have any porters (or other ‘great but hard to get in the US’ beers) you would be interested in parting with or trading, let me know! Thanks!

2015 Class of IBM Champions for ICS have been announced… so humbled and honored!
Wed, Dec 3rd 2014 9:11a   Ray Bilyk
After the evening, night and morning that I had, I was surprised by a text message by my brother, Devin Olson: Congratulations Champ! https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/blogs/ibmchampion/entry/announcing_the_2015_class_of_ibm_champions_for_ics?lang=en Needless to say (but saying anyway), I am SO HUMBLED and HONORED to have been selected as a 2015 IBM Champion for ICS! Last year was a complete whirlwind of energy, excitement, and knowledge sharing. I thought that I would be ‘one

A revolutionary way to look at your email… but not from IBM!
Wed, Oct 22nd 2014 2:20p   Ray Bilyk
It looks like IBM is not the only one that wants us to look at mail in a new way: Today, we’re introducing something new. It’s called Inbox. Years in the making, Inbox is by the same people who brought you Gmail, but it’s not Gmail: it’s a completely different type of inbox, designed to focus on what really matters. Email started simply as a way to send digital notes around the office. But fast-forward 30 years and with just the phone in your pocket, you can use email to contact virtuall

Domino getting support for POODLE and SHA2
Tue, Oct 21st 2014 10:12a   Ray Bilyk
I’m being cautiously optimistic on this! Thank you IBM for finally addressing one of the many elephants in the room! How is IBM Domino impacted by the POODLE attack? (IBM Technote 1687167) Planned SHA-2 deliveries for IBM Domino 9.x (IBM Technote 1418982) Notice that the second technote indicates that support for SHA-2 will be for Domino 9.x only. There are plenty of posts out there about ways to get around this… off the top of my head, my friend Darren Duke posted one here: Here

Nominations for the 2015 IBM Champions for ICS are now open!
Fri, Sep 5th 2014 1:12p   Ray Bilyk
As usual, I’m late to post this (seriously, do some of you people work?), but IBM has opened nominations for the 2015 IBM Champions for IBM Collaboration Solutions. What is the IBM Champions program? Per the IBM Champion homepage, The IBM Champion program recognizes innovative thought leaders in the technical community — and rewards these contributors by amplifying their voice and increasing their sphere of influence. An IBM Champion is an IT professional, business leader, developer,

Help tip the scales so IBM will support SHA-2 in the native HTTP stack

Go read Darren Duke’s ‘Call to Arms’ about getting IBM to listen to those of us that want/need SHA-2 support in the native HTTP stack: So Domino and SHA2…..There’s a SPR for that Now that you’ve read it… ACT! He tells you how, and even provides easy links to get you going. Thanks Darren for leading this charge! Sometimes #ItsDarrensFault is a good thing…

There’s only 3 weeks left until MWLUG 2014 in beautiful Grand Rapids, Michigan at the even more beautiful Amway Grand Plaza Hotel from August 27-29, 2014! I have some simple questions for you: Why haven’t you registered yet? Why haven’t you booked your room yet? (Hotel discount is expiring) Why don’t you want to be cool like the rest of us that are attending? (Yes, you can be cool simply by attending) Why don’t you like beer? MWLUG 2014 Sessions and Workshops announced – What’s in it for you?
Thu, Jun 26th 2014 8:11a   Ray Bilyk
As Richard Moy posted yesterday on his blog, the sessions and workshops for MWLUG 2014 have been announced. I am fortunate to speak with my manager, Dr. Tom Bilan, at this year’s event. This is our session: Homebrew your own Metrics: An IBM Domino Administrator’s Guide to SNMP It’s important as an IBM Domino administrator to get metrics on your servers so that you know what’s going on in your “Brewhouse”. There are also many ways to obtain this very valuable i

Introducing… You Drink Some, You Brew Some
Tue, Jun 10th 2014 12:15p   Ray Bilyk
Like many of my IT brethren that are going out and following their individual passions (also known as ‘things that keep them happy and sane’), I am also following their lead and getting more into the hobby of making my own beer, wine and spirits (also known as zymurgy). I wanted to keep track of the things I see, do and taste, so of course, I’m going to blog it. Because I didn’t want to change this blog, or add content that might not be technologically related, I created

MWLUG 2014 Abstract Submission Extended until Next Friday, May 23, at 5:00 PM
Fri, May 16th 2014 12:11p   Ray Bilyk
From Richard Moy and the MWLUG Committee: With the sad news of Tim [Tripcony] passing away, many of us have not had the time to absorb what has happened.  Given that, the MWLUG committee has decided to extend the abstract submission period for MWLUG 2014 until the end of next week, May 23.  MWLUG was the first time that I met Tim in person.  He was one of the first to volunteer as a speaker when we first started the MWLUG conferences.  He will be sorely missed. Great idea… ThereR

An “Outsider’s” view of Tim Tripcony
Tue, May 13th 2014 10:10a   Ray Bilyk
I was at a loss yesterday when I heard about Tim from Scott Hooks. I’m still doing some soul searching, but since a lot of the ‘collaboration family’ is sharing their thoughts, I thought that I’d share mine. As some of you know, I’m primarily an administrator, and I refer to myself only as a ‘closet developer’. I used to believe that when referring to administrators versus developers, it’s was ‘us vs. them’. That all changed the first t
