Speaking at ICON UK 2014 – From Idea To App
Fri, Jul 18th 2014 11:11p Rene Winkelmeyer I’m honored to speak at ICON UK 2014. The event is held at the IBM Client Centre in London, which looks like a first-class location.
From Idea To App
“We need this data available on our mobile devices.” – an often heard requirement these days. But what needs to be done to achieve this?
Learn in this session the steps to use your data, like that in IBM Domino, within a native iOS app. You’ll get a grasp on the MVC pattern in the Xcode IDE and see the benefits of t [read] Keywords: domino
Explaining Certificate Authentication – 101 style
Mon, Jul 14th 2014 12:11a Rene Winkelmeyer Less people know that one of my pet technologies I’ve worked with in the last years was everything around certificates. I’m not talking about SSL for websites only, more about using certificate-based technology in general.
The reasons why I started with certificates was the incorporation of this piece of technology within different areas of our companies products. That has extended by time into other areas. Projects I’ve worked in and with involved for example:

Automate the upgrade of Atlassian Stash on Linux
Mon, Jun 30th 2014 12:12a Rene Winkelmeyer Upgrading existing software is sometimes cumbersome. Long checklists, validating pre-conditions, maintaining backups etc.
So is it with Atlassian Stash. Stash is an awesome software to manage your Git repositories. As Atlassian delivers often new releases it became tedious for me to upgrade our Stash installation.
I wrote a small bash script that now automates the process for me. The script does the following:
Read the Stash version number and download URL from a prompt

Need to change Eclipse JRE for OS X 10.10 Yosemite
Fri, Jun 20th 2014 12:05a Rene Winkelmeyer When you install Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite you’ll have to re-install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). That’s a normal behavior on Mac devices.
One thing that’s new here is that Apple has removed QT support. Apple stores in the folder /System/Library/Java/Extension additional files which supplement the JRE installation. Now with Yosemite the files QTJava.zip and libQTNative.jnilib are no longer part of the extensions.
Depending on your JRE setup in Eclipse you now have to go [read] Keywords: apple
Detecting Domino bitness in pure Java
Mon, Apr 28th 2014 2:30a Rene Winkelmeyer For a recent project I had to determine the bitness of IBM Domino in pure Java.
One may ask if there is a reason to have that information. In my case I wanted to call some included native C libraries via JNI within an OSGi plug-in. And calling i. e. a 64bit library on a 32bit system…well…that just won’t work.
I didn’t wanted to go with the assumption that on a 64bit operating system always 64bit Domino runs.
As I’m serving “only” Linux and Windows the nu [read] Keywords: domino
