Lesson for the week: Always ask for a second opinion.
Fri, May 3rd 2013 8:17a   Roy Rumaner
Lesson for the week: Always ask for a second opinion. This statement really hit home this week and it saved me a huge amount of money. On Monday morning, the engine in my wife's car died while she was on her way to work. No warning, no lights, no bells and whistles, just sitting at a light and bang, stutter and then nothing. Dead. Flash forward, I arrive to help her move it out of traffic and wait with her until AAA arrives to tow it to a repair shop a few miles away while I drive [read] Keywords:

IBM Lotus Notes 8.5.3 How-to While this is a very short (less than 60 pages) book, it tries to pack a lot of information into it. The chapters are set up as Simple, Intermediate and Advanced. All of a sudden I am living on lakefront property
Thu, Apr 18th 2013 10:16a   Roy Rumaner
The first two picture are from yesterday about 4 hours after the rain started. Not to bad out back and the usual small ponds around the storm drains in front. Today, after almost 12 hours of very intense thunderstorms, we now have a lake instead of small ponds and the backyard is completely under water. After about two hours with light rain this morning, the storm sewer in the backyard did it's job and the backyard is quickly draining out. MWLUG 2012 Thoughts
Mon, Aug 20th 2012 2:09p   Roy Rumaner
Well another MWLUG has come and gone. This year it was in Pittsburgh which coincidentally also happened to be where my current client PNC is located. In fact they are just across the street from the magnificent Omni William Penn Hotel where MWLUG was held. I took the Amtrak train from Chicago to Pittsburgh with Martha Geppert and Richard Moy and his family. We left at a respectable 7:10 PM on Tuesday. When we discussed taking the train, at first it sounded like fun. Let me tell you now that i [read] Keywords: ibm xpages applications blogger css dojo email java linkedin mobile profile

What a great way to spend an evening (personal)
Wed, Apr 4th 2012 11:10p   Roy Rumaner
Tonight I got to do something I wish every American could (and would) do. We went to Midway Airport tonight to welcome home 95 WW II veterans. Thanks to the men and women who make up the Honor Flight Network, these soldiers were treated to a day in Washington D.C. They had tours of some of the museums and the WW II Memorial wall. They were each given shirts, backpacks and an amazing number of souvenirs to remember the day. Oh yeah, they left Chicago's Midway Airport at 0400 (that is 4 AM f [read] Keywords: blogger network

It has been one of those days, weeks, months - you know the kind where everything you do takes longer and is not as easy as you thought it should be. Well today I finally finished a particularly complicated application and turned it over to the client for testing. That should be a huge weight off my shoulders except they have three others that need me to help them with their projects as well. That is all good news and makes me very happy. When all goes wrong, it is probably something you did
Wed, Jan 25th 2012 8:10p   Roy Rumaner
Russell Maher posted an interesting and timely tip today on his blog. I recommend that everyone take a moment to read it. This post was inspired by a conversation I had with Russ and Nathan Freeman last night. I spent the better part of the last couple of days trying to figure out why Rich Text Fields, Attachments, and anything having to do with saving to an RTF on the backend wouldn't work in my XPage. Other times, different fields that worked once, stopped working at odd times too. Ev [read] Keywords: rich text xpages application blogger openntf

What a way to spend a day - getting new glasses
Mon, Oct 31st 2011 9:11p   Roy Rumaner
Today I got to spent the better part of five hours at LensCrafters. I got up, started to work and my glasses decided that today was the day that the right side was going to detach from the nose bridge. Being that the frames and lenses are both made of plastic and super glue has a nasty habit of melting plastic, there was no way to fix them. So it was off to LensCrafters in the mall at 9:30. You may know this already if you have used the Eclipse Editor for a while but I just found it today. I have finally had the time to put together a review of this book. I have been putting this off for about 4 months because I didn't want to go back to Domino when I was trying to learn XPages. To many things to learn and not enough hours in the day. Wow !! What a show. After attending Lotusphere 14 times, this was the first time I worked on the exhibit floor. Code in agent changes overnight using Notes 6.5.6. Anyone ever seen this problem?

I received an email from a Notes Developer that is having trouble and was wondering if anyone has heard of this problem before. IBM will not help him since the version he is on, 6.5.6, is beyond EOL. He has an agent (one of many) in his system that is somehow being modified overnight without his intervention. It is not always the same line that changes and the time / date stamp is also being changed. For example, he edited the code yesterday and made 3 changes.
