The Olympics are coming
Fri, Feb 24th 2012 6:10a Tim Clark This summer London will be awash with people, excitement and sport. To make this massive sports show happen that comprises of 39 Olympic disciplines and 21 Paralympic disciplines.
To make all this happen is taking thousands of people employed by London Olympic Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), about 6000 and then there are the 70,000 volunteers that will do masses of the work front of house and behind the scenes.
My journey to the Olympics 2012 started back in 2010 when I [read] Keywords: application
My first Lotusphere as a non-IBMer
Sat, Jan 21st 2012 1:11p Tim Clark The annual yellow-wash this year was my first without a staff badge and lots of people asked me what it was like to not be an IBMer. At the time I could not tell them as it was Sunday or Monday and I had not really experienced it yet. Now it’s finished and I’ve had chance to evaluate it a little bit I can tell you that it was different but not as different as it could have been.
Working for GSX (an IBM business partner) meant that I was still working on the product showcase floor. T [read] Keywords: ibm
It’s that time of year again…
Mon, Jan 9th 2012 6:09p Tim Clark So I’m on another aircraft this time heading for Chicago, IL. Since I left IBM I’ve been flying quite a bit. Back and for to Geneva, Nice and Buffalo and whilst I enjoy air travel, being away from home is more of an issue now than it used to be. Having two children turn up in our lives has made Marissa and I value our time together even more. I’m also very involved in the kids daily routines so I miss it and them when I’m not there.
This flight to Chicago will then join [read] Keywords: ibm
Mobile device week of shame
Thu, Oct 13th 2011 6:12a Tim Clark Let’s start with Blackberry.
I have the wonderful Bold 9900, lovely phone, great mix of touch screen and keyboard, great size, nice screen.
Shame it’s connected to the Blackberry BES service that can be down for 3 days, including the Blackberry innovation Forum in London. Oooops!
And then on to Apple.
YES Apple. Who’d have thought that releasing a new iPhone, new iOS and iCloud service all on the same day would bring their download servers to their knees?

Can I be a GoogleWhack?
Tue, Sep 20th 2011 6:09a Tim Clark “Mifi Reviews”
There I’ve done it. ;o)
So having watched and read Dave Gourman’s excellent GoogleWhack adventure I’ve always wondered if you could innocently engineer one.
Today I search for “mifi reviews” as I’m thinking of buying one. ZERO hits! Hmmmm, does that mean that I could become one by creating this page?
Let’s see. ;o) [read] Keywords:
Time to move on…..
Thu, Aug 18th 2011 6:09a Tim Clark ,,,, to a couple of new challenges.
Monday 22nd August will see me depart from IBM. My business home for the past 17 years 7 months and 12 days. I started working for Lotus Development UK Limited for a chap called Graham Jons (he’s still in IBM somewhere) in the spreadsheet and database support team. Back in the days when we had a UK call centre for Lotus support and we still wrote software like Lotus 1-2-3, Improv, Approach, AmiPro and Freelance Graphics. I remember once whilst on the App [read] Keywords: ibm
A trip to Manchester for UKLUG
Wed, Jun 1st 2011 11:08a Tim Clark Sunday morning started with an early run up the M40/M6 to Manchester for the set up of UKLUG (United Kingdom Lotus User Group). I say early because 8am is not a time I normally witness most Sundays, well for now anyway. I was surprised at the amount of Red Kites that I saw all looking for prey along the M40 corridor from High Wycombe up to Banbury. They are close to the endangered list so it was good to count about 50 of them up the motorway.
Arriving in Manchester I made my way to the Museum of [read] Keywords: lotus
BLUG with no laptop
Thu, Mar 31st 2011 6:09a Tim Clark I am here at BLUG, as a speaker, but as I came on the motorbike I am travelling light. So I’m trying an experimenting with surviving the rest of this week just on my iPad. I’m in good company as Paul Mooney is trying it too.
I’ll let you know how we get on. [read] Keywords: laptop
Reflections from the Sphere
Mon, Feb 7th 2011 10:13a Tim Clark I survived “The Sphere”, again!
Last week was the annual yellow wash in Orlando called Lotusphere 2011. It’s always a great event and I particularly liked this years event. A whole bunch of reason, but mostly because the labs worked really well and all our planning meant we were not working at stupid o’clock to make stuff work for 10am on Monday morning. Thank you to all the team who helped make that happen.
Saturday night was dinner out night, so I’m glad I had bro [read] Keywords: ibm

Lotusphere 2011, here I come.
Thu, Jan 27th 2011 3:17p Tim Clark I made it through the week will little or no damage. Monday was session practise with the amazing Mr White, Tuesday was customer meeting with Miss Pearce to discuss a Quickr for Domino pilot, Wednesday was a planned trip to the Parkside Suite at Frimley Park Hospital and today was recovery and packing day.
Yesterday went fairly well, but I should have know what was going to happen from what happened on Tuesday at my local doctors surgery. Because of the Atrial fibrillation the doctors decided t [read] Keywords: domino
So this is the week that is, or will be, or something….
Mon, Jan 24th 2011 5:16a Tim Clark So today I’m in IBM Southbank all day with my good friend Matt White working on our presentations for Lotusphere 2011.
Tomorrow will be spent driving to and from Birmingham to see a customer about Lotus Quickr.
Wednesday I will mostly be in hospital fixing my atrial fibrillation (I hope)
Thursday will be recovering from Wednesday and packing for Lotusphere
Friday will be mostly on an aeroplane heading towards Orlando, FL for Lotusphere.
So a most relaxing week coming up then. :-s [read] Keywords: ibm
The X Cast is shocked back into life. ;o)
Tue, Jan 11th 2011 9:13a Tim Clark I have just published episode 4 of the X Cast over at http://thexcast.net and it’s been a great podcast to record and publish. Mainly because I have two new friends helping me out with it and they are offering all sorts of advice and opinions, which is great news. This means that they will pester me to do some more with it and keep it going. Long may it continue.
As a side note, for anyone who read my last post about atrial fibrillation, a date has been set for my electro-cardioversion (el [read] Keywords: lotusphere
Atrial Fibrillation me
Wed, Dec 8th 2010 4:12p Tim Clark This is my third episode of A.F. as I have had one in 2000 and one in 2006, so this is not so new to me, but it’s still worrying at times.
To fill you all in on the “heart thing”. I’m currently having an episode of atrial fibrillation that has been with me now since Saturday 27-Nov. This basically means that the top half and bottom half of the heart have lost communication with each other. The top half then start to fibrillate (shiver) and send off wild and crazy signals [read] Keywords: office
Lotus Notes upgrade workshops
Fri, Sep 10th 2010 9:25a Tim Clark My colleague Matt Newton is running a series of Notes upgrade workshops during September and October. With Notes / Domino 8.5.2, now available, there’s never been a better time to look at upgrading a back-version infrastructure, to take advantage of the attractive and highly-functional Notes client and the many improvements on the Domino server (many of which will contribute to lowering the cost of ownership). To quote the invite…
