IBM Connections – Michael Sampson’s State of Market Whitepaper
Wed, Nov 19th 2014 9:11a   Victor Toal
I have met Michael Sampson several times in person over the last few years, I have most of his books and actually suggest them as required reading to clients of mine, sometimes even buying them as gifts to make sure they actually get read. I don’t go as far as testing them on content and make them write essays, but I do discuss the books with them. Michael just posted a VERY interesting new document that I suggest as an absolute required reading to anybody involved in “social in the

SPNEGO: Map SPNs and Create Combined Keytab Files In One Step
Thu, Nov 13th 2014 11:16a   Victor Toal
I have been wanting to blog about my SPNEGO install guide for a while but have been just a bit busy lately (my usual excuse). However, I just had to help a client setup SPNEGO for their IBM Connections environment so I decided the time for procrastination is over. If you look at the IBM documentation, the process to create the SPNEGO keytab files and mapping the correct URLs and Fully Qualified Hostnames of servers to the AD account is rather onerous. IBM documentation will have you create sep

My Connections security and migration workshop at MWLug
Thu, Jul 17th 2014 11:12a   Victor Toal
Richard Moy did a nice write-up on Socialbiz.org of the workshop I will be presenting at MWLug in August. Now I am starting to feel the pressure. . . . https://www.socialbizug.org/blogs/bbb75111-095b-4026-93cf-4d6af0e73250/entry/ibm_connections_migration_security_session_at_mwlug_2014?lang=en_us Filed under: Uncategorized

Mon, Jul 14th 2014 1:11p   Victor Toal
Looks like yours truly is speaking at MWLug again. It is always a quality event with good speakers and allot of people to learn from. This year it is in Michigan and I am looking forward to it as i have never visited that state yet. Hopefully the good people of Grand Rapids will let me in and not turn me back at the airport or pro-actively throw me into the slammer. My presentation is called: "IBM Connections Migration – Review your WebSphere security and then use all these great tricks f

Open Mic Webcast : Linux for the IBM Sametime Admin (04/09/2014)
Tue, Apr 1st 2014 6:12a   Victor Toal
Marlon Machado posted this on the Sametime blog (link below) yesterday. Since there is allot of Linux all over the place, I suggest this as a webcast to listen to. If you still live in a Windows only server world, it is only a amtter of time until your boss tells you that there are maybe some Linux machines coming your way …. As you probably know by now IBM’s commitment to the Linux platform is broad and deep. That includes, of course, IBM Sametime. We’re steadily expanding an

WebSphere – The Basics on Security, Directories and Federated Repositories
Sun, Mar 16th 2014 9:13a   Victor Toal
I had promised earlier this year to post more content (other than opinion and news) so I am now catching up on my promise. This post was inspired by a combined WebSphere – IBM Connections review review I did for a client earlier this year, along with some content from my IBM Connections admin training that I offer and that the same client asked me to give after they read my review of their environment. This is the first in a small series of blog-posts on security and configuration in WebSp

Rebranding of Notes Mail / Connections Mail and Consequences – #RebrandingFail
Wed, Feb 12th 2014 2:11p   Victor Toal
I received this marketing/sales email earlier today and reading it made me a bit confused and also concerned. Not because I think that IBM and email is going away, but because f the way that IBM has initialized it’s latest round of rebranding Notes (aka Connections Mail) there is confusion in the marketplace and this is a great example for what clients are going to be bombarded with: Dear Victor, IBM is ending the “Lotus” brand, and has been building more functionality into “IBM Conn
