Apple hinges on the iPhone. It is their most important product. And if you go their website, you will find they are currently selling five different models, not counting storage options: 7 and 7 Plus, 6S and 6s Plus, and the SE. Most rumors suggest that Apple will be releasing a 7S and a 7S Plus, alongside a new iPhone 8.

This makes no sense to me. The branding is becoming a mess.

I suggest that Apple gives up on the number scheme that we have become so accustomed to. The iPad leads the way out of this mess. The current iPad would be an iPad 7, if Apple had not introduced the Air and Air 2. Now it's just iPad. And for the iPad Pro, the bigger model did not even change the name when it was replaced this year.

I think going forward it will just be iPhone. Not iPhone 8 or iPhone 7S. And since the iPhone SE has started to go on sale I would expect Apple to drop the SE moniker as well. And while we are at it, why do we need the Plus name?

Once you just call it iPhone, Apple could make an iPhone Pro. Like the iPad and iPad Pro, there could be a cheaper iPhone and a significantly more expensive iPhone Pro. The iPhone could be available in two sizes, the iPhone Pro could start with one size. And Apple would have the opportunity to add more sizes throughout the year, freeing them from the strict September schedule.

Simple flow chart :: Buying a phone

I look at lots of phones, and I have been impressed by the Motorola Z Force and Play, by the Huawei P10 and Mate 10 Plus, by several BlackBerrys. They are all great fun and after a while I return them. But if I need somebody to spend money, I would always advise them to buy an iPhone. It does not have to be the very latest and greatest one. And for those that have already decided they do not want to buy from Apple, it's very simple: buy a Google Pixel. If you cannot afford the Pixel 2, get the

More >
Ignore these challenges

Somebody asked me the other day if I was experiencing the same difficulties with Apple Watch Activity Challenges? Yes, hell yes. They are completely FUBAR. Look that the challenge I got this month. It says I doubled my move goal zero times in December and that I doubled my Move goal last on December 05. Does not compute, right? It never does. I have yet to see a single challenge that works out OK. I need a "delete this challenge" button to make this go away. It's a disgrace.

Sonos and Audible

Two years ago Audible support was dropped from Sonos because it wasn't working anymore. Sonos has stated they want to bring back Audible as a service, but they are not sharing any ETA. I tried again last night. Anyway, check your "Add Music Services" menu. You may be as lucky as the little birdy that told me it showed up in their catalog without any prior announcement.
