Function keys not working on AIX (smitty) when using Putty
Thu, May 8th 2014 7:10a Wannes Rams Working on a AIX deployment for the moment.
A very usefull tool on AIX for configuring a lot of stuff on the system is smitty
Issue is that on smitty you have to use the keyboards function keys to navigate. These don’t work.
There is a simple solution for this.
Go to you Putty preferences and alter your “Terminal – Keyboard” settings for the “function keys and keypad” to “Xterm R6″
Make sure to save this setting to your server connection.

@Mentions not working on Connections 4.5 CR3
Fri, Mar 21st 2014 8:49a Wannes Rams We are experiencing issues with @mentions in Internet Explorer 9 at a customer. The customer uses dutch and french keyboards. If we change the keyboard layout to US everything works as expected.
In Firefox everything is working as expected even with a dutch or french keyboard.
This issue seems to be a revert bug from Connections 4.0 that was fixed in CR4
Pmr opened, waiting for a fix :-)
In the meanwhile we are using “alt + 64″ to get to the @ symbol. That works Filed under: Uncateg [read] Keywords: connections

Tue, Dec 10th 2013 3:24a Wannes Rams I was named IBM Champion last week. I still can’t believe it. I am very proud, shocked, honored and thrilled to be part of such a great group of people. I am happy Theo Heselmans does not have to defend Belgiums colours on his own anymore. I feel I should step up my game now to be able to be worth to be on that list.
On top of that I have been selected to speak @ the IBM Connect conference in January together with Klaus Bild on Customizing Connections.

Audio and Video settings not saved in Sametime 9
Fri, Oct 25th 2013 3:06a Wannes Rams While starting rollout of the Sametime 9 client in Windows, we saw that the Audio & Video hardware settings are not maintained after a client restart.
Testing shows that the file where it should store these settings is touched on applying changes, but nothing is written to it.
The file it should write to is:
We have an open pmr and Dev is working on getting this solved.

Save emoticon bug in Sametime 9
Mon, Oct 14th 2013 6:13a Wannes Rams Recently discovered a bug in the new Sametime 9 client. When you receive a custom emoticon in a chat message, you have the functionality to right click and save it to an emoticon palette of your choice. This was working fine in 8.5.2 but does not perform any action in the new 9 client.
IBM support has written a fix that will be included in the first public Hotfix for Sametime 9 client. Filed under: Sametime Tagged: emoticon, sametime [read] Keywords: ibm
Sametime Audio and Video not working when all components on 1 Windows 2008 box
Wed, Aug 21st 2013 9:02a Wannes Rams Recently I had to troubleshoot a newly installed Sametime environment for a small deployment.
All WebSphere components installed on 1 box with 3 ip addresses assigned to 1 Nic on Windows 2008 R2 SP1
Point to point video was working, however adding a third person or using Audio and Video from the meeting center would not work.
Strange… After some investigation, it looked like the Media Server services and Proxy server services were all listening on the Meeting servers address instead of the [read] Keywords: sametime
The (Microsoft) pot calling the (Google) kettle black?
Fri, Jul 19th 2013 12:56a Wannes Rams Is discrediting your major competitor the new way of marketing. Microsoft seems to think so.
They have the nerve to accuse their competitor of something they are accused of themselves (they deny everything, just as Google does)
I question this way of trying to beat the competition. I believe that companies must make a profit, but not at all cost. They have a duty towards our society and should be an example on how things should be done.
Profit can still be made when doing business ethically. Jus [read] Keywords: collaboration

Why we sometimes loose to Sharepoint
Wed, Feb 6th 2013 1:45a Wannes Rams Sometimes we loose a battle to our friends from Microsoft. Mostly we are competing against SharePoint. Why do we loose?
I truly believe that the IBM suite of products is better than Microsoft’s suite. It truly is, individual features and products are just better, no question about it. So how can we loose?
Because SharePoint offers a bit of everything into one integrated platform, you can do a bit of document sharing, some forms to make life easier and you can setup some websites reall [read] Keywords: connections
IBM Connect 2013
Tue, Feb 5th 2013 5:10a Wannes Rams IBM Connect 2013! What’s in a name? Honestly, I couldn’t care less about the name change. I was a bit afraid about the amount of technical session, but I think it was about the same as last year.
Writing this on the plane heading home, and glad to be heading home I must admit it was the best conference I went to ever. I have not much to compare to as it was only the 3th one I attended, but from those 3, just the best.
The opening session was a blast, great opening, a relaxed and co [read] Keywords: ibm
IBM Connect 2013, going after all
Mon, Jan 21st 2013 6:41a Wannes Rams After seeing my 2 session abstracts being turned down I had peace with not going to IBM Connect this year.
My company was not sending anyone until last week when some customers showed interest in going. I was appointed to join them.
Whilst the timing might be bad, I have construction workers starting on the house on Friday before Connect, I am happy that I can go.
I am looking forward seeing some friends again, and to be included in the team social this year.

IBM Product Sites, 5 past 12 to get them redesigned
Mon, Nov 26th 2012 1:49p Wannes Rams Today I was trying to find some basic info on IBM Connections 4 to include in a customer proposal.
I went to the IBM Connections product website and not for the first time I realized my mistake. Nothing to find there, and surely not a website you want to point your customers to. I have to agree that over the last couple of years a lot of improvements have been made to the product sites and I understand that all product sites across the portfolio must look similar, but the look and feel for t [read] Keywords: connections
IBM Sametime Turn Server playing tricks on me
Thu, Oct 11th 2012 8:13a Wannes Rams I recently installed a full Sametime Standard environment for a customer for a small number of users.
I decided to go for a 2 server install and put all WebSphere based components on 1 machine.
I ended up with 5 ip adresses on 1 network card on that machine. In the end I got everything working and I started to test the Audio and Video components.
They all seemed to work fine except from outside the network. Looked like I never reached the server. Telnet internally worked, external did not.

Empty groups in Sametime client on 8.5.2 IFR1
Fri, Aug 31st 2012 2:46a Wannes Rams For weeks now we are having calls from users complaining about empty or half empty public Sametime groups. After a server reboot the issue will be gone for a while, but it comes back. We have the same behaviour in our proxy server
We have Sametime 8.5.2IFR1 deployed and we are using Domino LDAP with nested groups. I started of my search in the group structure, as we changed the group naming and nesting level a couple of weeks back (with some other unwanted consequences)
But I did not manage to f [read] Keywords: domino
Lotus Quickr, people losing access to places
Wed, Aug 29th 2012 7:28a Wannes Rams Recently I came across this issue. All of the sudden people would start losing access to places. Not everybody and not to all places.
You must love these problems where you can’t pinpoint any logic.
After some asking around, it turned out the Domino admin had been mass changing groups in the Domino ldap directory. this resulted in a changed level of nesting for some users in some groups. The nesting level got 1 to 3 levels deeper. I was not notified of this change.

IBM Redbooks Social Media Residency review
Wed, Aug 22nd 2012 10:51a Wannes Rams I wanted to write a review about being on the IBM Redbooks Social Media Residency last week, but my residency colleague Keith Brooks wrote a review on his blog that summarizes it so well that I don’t see the point in doing the same.
There are a couple of things I want to add. As I am not an experienced blogger, going to this residency was different for me than for people like Keith and some of the others. They have a lot of experience in blogging unlike me.

Duplicate users in IBM Connections 3 Homepage table
Tue, Aug 21st 2012 6:05a Wannes Rams In IBM Connections 3.0.1 your network contacts are kept in the profiles database, but also in the homepage database.
The reason for this is probably because you need them to show feeds for your network in the Homepage application and the applications are developed by different teams so the homepage team probably found it more convenient to keep them as well to be able to manipulate the table as they wanted to.
This has some side effects, looks like the restrictions on inserts into this table w [read] Keywords: connections
Why this blog?
Tue, Aug 21st 2012 5:17a Wannes Rams As my first post I think I should explain why I want to start blogging, just to make sure the eventual readers can understand the motivation for this.
The idea of starting a private blog was in the back of my head for a couple of months now, but I was not able to put my finger on the reason for it.
After being part of the IBM Redbooks Social Business Residence in Raleigh NC it became a bit more clear to me.
I am definitely into social, I was before this residency, but it convinced me even more [read] Keywords: ibm
