August was a busy month for all of us here at Warren Elsmore,We welcomed thousands of visitors to our ‘ Brick City- The Backstage Tour’ in August as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. For the month of August we moved our studio into the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust Site at Riddles Court ( just off the Royal mile )- right in the Heart of ' the fringe'. Visitors got a tour through the world of professional LEGO model making, this included talking to the team, seeing models being bui

The Warren Elsmore Team were busy towards the end of August with an Event called Awesome Bricks at the Scottish Museum of flight at East Fortune Airfield near North Berwick. We were on hand all weekend to assist with lots of LEGO activities and to have some fun with bricks. We also turned the Airfield's educational workshop into a LEGO Museum, this display chronicled the history of the LEGO Company and showcased a lot of early , rare or very special LEGO Sets, in addition to some extremely rare

After a successful Edinburgh Fringe festival ( Brick City -the back stage tour ) things are starting to get back to normal, - we recently returned alot of models, bricks and equipment back to our studio....The two huge LEGO brick arches that highlighted our location on the Royal Mile have been dismantled, and have now been cleaned and returned to our Warehouse... Its not all Glamorous work !

We want to lift the ship...

Most of the time, when we build a commission - it belongs to our clients so they can do whatever they like with it. Even a 2.8 tonne, 13 meter long ship. But sometimes, there are special circumstances!Just before our trip to Portugal, I took a phone call from DFDS. They'd been able to arrange for the worlds' largest LEGO ship to be put on display in the Maritime Museum of Denmark- a great collaboration and worth the trip if you are ever nearby. There was only one small catch - it would need to

Warren Elsmore and Touring Exhibitions Group Case Study
Tue, Sep 5th 2017 9:24a   Warren Elsmore
It's all been a bit hectic here lately, that's for sure! We're right in the middle of putting our studio back together, following on from the Festival. Don't worry - we'll be posting lots of pictures soon!Whilst we do that, I thought I might post the latest Case Study that we just released. Working with Woodhorn museum we've delivered a couple of really popular exhibitions (if I do say so myself!) and brought some LEGO goodness to Northumberland ;-) Cli

Roads? Where we're going we don't need any - oh wait.....!
Fri, Aug 18th 2017 10:34p   Warren Elsmore
As we continue to add more buildings and scenery to Brick City - the backstage tour, we realised last week that we really did need some more roads. Specifically, roads that could fit between our houses and waterside. LEGO road plates are actually pretty large and not that pretty, so why not make them ourselves? As we actually needed quite a few roads, I designed a section that we could easily replicate - made from mostly fairly easily obtainable bricks. A

The opening of (a) Parliament
Wed, Jul 19th 2017 9:12p   Warren Elsmore
Pop quiz! What's the oldest continually running parliament in the world? Hint - it's not the UK but it is nearby....The oldest parliament in the world is in fact the 'High Court of Tynwald' - the parliament of the Isle of Man. In case you don't know, the Isle of Man is a small island nestled between the UK and Ireland. It's not part of either country but is instead a Crown Dependancy with Queen Elizabeth as head of state. Anyway, back to the LEGO! The oldest parliament in the world, called

Big Black... Roosters.

Around this time last year, Teresa and I were in Portugal for the first Paredes de Coura LEGO fan weekend. Not their first event, but the first as a fully fledged hub event. Anyway, the event last year was fantastic. I'll be honest in that we had no idea what to expect, but whatever ideas we might have had were blown away by the hospitality, generosity and professionalism of the event. Obviously went back this year!As we left last year I offered to make the event a large-scale version of their

Lets go Down(ton) Newbury, shall we?
Tue, Jun 13th 2017 2:52p   Warren Elsmore
If you were in the Kennet Shopping Centre in Newbury last week - you can't have failed to notice this going on! Highclere Castle is the real life building that is used as the setting for Downton Abbey. A TV show that a few people have seen apparently! With the help of all the visitors, over the week Teresa and I assembled a large model of Downton Abbey, including more than a few windows and of course the towers on top. Check out the video to see how we got on!

Helter Skelter!
Wed, May 31st 2017 8:44p   Warren Elsmore
You might know it as a 'Skyslide'. Or perhaps not at all, because apparently these particular fairground rides are not common outside the UK. Well, our minifigs have got one on and they plan on enjoying it!The Helter Skelter wasn't an easy build, but it's the first building that I finished for The Backstage Tour. Circles in LEGO can be pretty tricky, but large cones even more so. To build this ride I first created the top part in a big ring. Underneath that (you can't see it now) are plates

OK, it's been a little while since we posted some news. But in our defence, it's been a busy year! We started by building the National Museum of Scotland, followed up with the amazing DFDS #LEGOShip, not to mention Brick Animals, Brick Cars'n'Trucks, Brick by Brick Space and Brick by Brick Dinosaurs. Oh, and launching the tours of Brick History and Brick Dinos. And of course Brick City and Brick Wonders carried on touring too. Phew!If you followed any of those links above (or in fact, if you
