Alternative access to Domino applications on MacOS

If you are using a Mac and HCL Notes, the latest Monterey OS update, released two days ago, came with a surprise..

HCL Notes error message

The client quits shortly after the start, it’s affecting all versions. HCL is working on a solution and created a defect article, which I encourage you to subscribe

For the time being, there are other options and clients you can use to access your mail and applications.

For mail, the obvious one is HCL Verse. For applications, the options are HCL Nomad Web and HCL Client Application Access (v3.0.7 was released earlier this month, HT to Andreas J. for pointing to it).
Whereas Nomad Web needs more work in regards to setup and configuration, you will need a Safelinx server in front but will get a «complete» Notes Client in your browser with access to mail and applications, the HCAA client can be installed and used as regular desktop client to access your Domino applications.

Especially the HCAA client should defuse the current situation for urgent access to applications. And with the upcoming release of Domino Danube, the next Domino version scheduled for the end of 2022, the goal is to embed the Nomad Web access in Domino, removing the need for a Safelinx server.

I hope that HCL will find a solution quickly but if needed, alternatives are at hand.

Caveat.. if you are using an Early Access client of Notes, the beta of the upcoming release, you will not be able to use HCAA. The new version will automatically upgrade all local databases to the newest ODS, which HCAA can not read, as of now.
